Carole King Wiki Biography
Carole King was born on the 9th February 1942, in Manhattan, New York City, USA, and is a singer, songwriter and musician who was very popular in the 1970s, although she has been active since 1953. King is the winner of four Grammy Awards, and an inductee into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Additionally, she was honoured with a Library of Congress Gershwin Prize in 2013, as well as becoming an honouree of Kennedy Centre in 2015.
So how much rich is Carole King? It has been estimated that the outright size of her net worth is as much as $70 million, as of early 2016, accumulated during her career now spanning six decades.
To begin with, Carole started playing the piano at the age of four, and singing at the age of eight. Soon she formed the vocal quartet the Co-Sines, and sang alongside Paul Simon, Neil Sedaka and Gerry Goffin. The latter and Carole King then formed a duo famous for composing songs during the 1960s. Their first success was “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” performed by the Shirelles in 1961. Among many compositions that have been successful are “Take Good Care of My Baby” (Bobby Vee), “The Loco-Motion” (by Little Eva and Kylie Minogue), “Pleasant Valley Sunday” (The Monkees), “Up on the Roof” (by The Drifters, then by James Taylor), “A Natural Woman” (Aretha Franklin) and “He Kissed Me” (The Crystals). Moreover, Carole King also won public acclaim by interpreting her own composition “It Might As Well Rain Until September” (1962). Her song-writing has had a considerable impact on her net worth.
Later, Carole King formed the group called The City with Danny Kortchmar and Charles Larkey. Their album “Now That Everything’s Been Said” was a commercial failure, as well as “Writer” (1970). Fortunately, she was successful with the album “Tapestry” (1971) which sold 23 million copies and made her famous as a composer and performer. Her subsequent albums were also well received, including “Music” (1971), “Rhymes and Reasons” (1972) and “Wrap Around Joy” (1974). In 1973, Carole King gave a free outdoor concert in Central Park (New York), which attracted over 100 000 people. Her net worth was certainly growing.
Gerry Goffin and King resumed their collaboration to compose his album “Thoroughbred” (1975) with David Crosby, Graham Nash and James Taylor. Carole King started to collaborate with another composer, Rick Evers and achieved success with the album “Simple Things” (1977). Unfortunately, Evers died soon afterwards, and Carole produced the album “Welcome Home” (1978), in which she pays tribute to him. After realizing “Speeding Time” in 1983, she left the music industry for six years to devote to environmental activism. She made her return in 1989 with the album “City Streets”, followed by “Colour of Your Dreams” in 1993.
In 2005 Carole embarked on The Living Room Tour, in Canada and USA, and afterwards she released two very successful albums “Carole King and James Taylor: Live at the Troubadour” (2010) and “The Legendary Demos” (2012). Both topped the Billboard charts and significantly increased the net worth of Carole King.
Carole has appeared briefly in over a dozen films and TV series, adding somewhat to her riches.
Finally, in the personal life of the singer-songwriter, Carole has been married four times, to Gerry Goffin, Charles Larkey, Rick Evers and Rick Sorenso. Her third husband died of an overdose of heroin in 1978. She has two children with each of her first two husbands. Carole King is politically engaged; she supported John Kerry during his campaign for the USA presidency in 2004.
