Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Licciardello grew up in an Italian-American household. He fell in love with music at an early age as his mother is also an artist. During his younger years, he played as a drummer in his mother’s band, and later on started forming his own group. He also played with various artists and even moved to Las Vegas in pursuit of a career in music. His early years as a musician helped his career and also his net worth.

During his 20’s Licciardello became a born-again Christian when he attended one of Andrae Crouch’s concerts. With his new found faith, he focused on making Christian music and produced an album entitled “God’s Not Finished With Me”.

In 1982, Licciardello released his first album – “Some-o-Dat” – which was welcomed with minor success. He followed it with “Sunday’s On the Way” in 1983 and “Comin’ On Strong” in 1984. While creating music, he also started his non-profit organization Carman Ministries.

Licciardello received success in his music in 1985 upon the release of his album “The Champion”. The single, also entitled “The Champion”, became his first number one hit, followed with many more albums, and live albums that made him one of the most successful contemporary Christian artists in the industry. In total, he received 15 platinum and gold albums and videos, and has also sold over 10 million records. The success of his music catapulted him into the limelight, and also tremendously increased his wealth.

Licciardello’s fame led Billboard to name him the Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year in 1990 and 1992. Licciardello is also a record-holder for the largest single Christian concert in history – in 1993, his concert in Johannesburg, South Africa was attended by more than 50,000 participants. Another concert that he participated in at Texas Stadium was attended by a total of 71, 132 fans.
