Carmelo Anthony Wiki Biography
American basketball player Carmelo Anthony was born on 29 May 1984, in Brooklyn, New York City, to a father from Puerto Rico, and an African-American mother. He is a television producer, as well as an athlete, but is probably best known in his position of (a small) forward in the Denver Nuggets NBA team, where he played for almost eight years from 2003 ‘til 2011, since when he’s played for the New York Knicks.
So just how rich is Carmelo Anthony, as of early 2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Carmelo’s net worth is over $110 million, but still growing. This figure is unsurprising, as in 2013 Anthony collected $21.4 million from his salary and $9.5 million from various sponsorships, and then in 2014, Anthony signed a five-year contract with the New York Knicks, which amounts to $124.1 million, as well as earning $8 million that year from endorsements.
Carmelo’s family moved to Baltimore, where he focused on basketball as a way to avoid engaging in criminal activities. Anthony attended Towson Catholic High School, where he became one of the best basketball players, and was even featured in “The Baltimore Sun” daily newspaper, which called him the player of the year in 2001. Anthony continued playing basketball for one year at Syracuse University – Anthony’s remarkable performances on the court helped earn The Orangemen the NCAA tournament title, while Anthony was named for the Most Outstanding Player Award. Having won the college title, and led the team in minutes played (36.4 minutes per game), scoring, field goals and free throws made, and rebounding, Carmelo couldn’t think of more to accomplish at college, and so declared for the 2003 NBA Draft.
Anthony was selected the third overall pick by the Denver Nuggets, and playing for the team, he helped the Nuggets to post-regular season playoffs from 2004 to 2010, winning two division titles in that span, and in 2009 to their first Conference Finals appearance since 1985. However, apparently he couldn’t envisage the Nuggets going any further, so requested a trade, and was eventually granted his wish, to the New York Knicks in February 2011. His performances remained consistently high with the Knicks, but an NBA title still eludes him.
On a personal level, he has appeared in 10 All-Star games, and been an All-NBA Team member six times. He was the NBA Rookie Challenge MVP in 2004, and NBA Scoring Champion in 2013. In early 2017 he achieved 24,000 points in the NBA, still only 25th on the list, but with years to go, so his net worth will surely rise..
Internationally, Anthony has been a part of the US team at four Olympics, winning three gold and one bronze medals, and at numerous FIBA championships. Covering all appearances, Carmelo was named US Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2016.
In his personal life, Carmelo has been married to Alani “La La” Vazquez since 2010, and they have a son.
Outside of basketball, Carmelo Anthony has been partaking in various charitable events and making public appearances. Anthony worked as a spokesman for the “Family Resource Center”, and later created “The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center” and “Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center”. Anthony also donated money to the victims of the Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004, as well as the non-profit organization called “Living Classrooms Foundation”.
