Bruce Springsteen Wiki Biography
Bruce Springsteen was born on 23 September 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey USA, of Dutch and Irish (father) and Italian (mother) descent. Often referred to by his nickname of “The Boss”, Bruce is a singer, musician, songwriter and a film producer, known for his lyrical poeticism and heartland rock music. In particular, he is a very popular stage performer around the world with his E Street Band, having been involved in the music industry since the mid-’60s.
So just how rich is Bruce Springsteen? Currently, Bruce’s net worth is estimated by authoritative sources to be an impressive $480 million, and has accumulated most of his wealth through his earnings from the sales of albums, and from his concert tours during a very successful music career.
Bruce Springsteen took up music at the early age of seven. Heavily influenced by Elvis Presley’s and The Beatles’ performances on The Ed Sullivan Show, Springsteen began playing for audiences at the local New Jersey Route 34 trailer park and Elks Lodge. In 1972, Bruce was discovered by John Hammond and signed a record deal with Columbia Records, a company that had previously signed Bob Dylan. In 1973, Springsteen released two albums under their label, entitled “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J”, and “The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle”, but it wasn’t until his third album called “Born to Run” (1975) that he received public recognition, and which began his remarkable commercial success. The album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, sold six million copies in the US by 2000, and was ranked at #18 on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. His net worth was certainly now well set.
Throughout his lengthy career, Bruce Springsteen has released a total of 18 albums, the most recent being “High Hopes” (2014), which is the 11th of his albums to reach #1 in the US. Springsteen’s other very successful album, “Born in the U.S.A” (1984), has been certified platinum 15 times by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The tour supporting the album grossed $80-90 million overall, and consisted of 156 shows in the US, Canada and Europe.
A remarkably successful musician with an approximate $60 million annual income, Bruce Springsteen has won 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Bruce Springsteen is still as popular today as at any time during his career. He is appreciated for his quality stage performances, and actually for being a good friend to many musical contemporaries, several of whom he collaborates with. Bruce was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, and in 2013 was honored as MusiCares Person of the Year, and inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In his personal life, Bruce Springsteen was married to Julianne Phillips(1985-89) and has been married to Patti Scialfa since 1991; they have three children. Currently they live in Colts Neck, New Jersey, but Springsteen also owns several other homes, including a multi-million dollar mansion in Rumson, New Jersey, and a home in Wellington, Florida. In addition, he previously owned an expensive villa in West Palm Beach, Florida. Springsteen is an admirer of prestigious cars, and has a set of fancy vehicles, such as a Range Rover Sport and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Convertible – the value of which is reputed to be an astounding $400,000 – as well as a private jet. Bruce Springsteen actively participates in and campaigns for a variety of charities, some of which include Amnesty International, Rainforest Foundation Fund, WhyHunger, and Bob Woodruff Foundation. Bruce was also an active supporter of President Barack Obama.

Bruce Springsteen Quotes
- [on Donald Trump] The republic is under siege by a moron, basically. Without overstating it, it’s a tragedy for our democracy. The ideas he’s moving to the mainstream are all very dangerous ideas – white nationalism and the alt-right movement. We have certain problems in the United States – tremendous inequality of wealth distribution. That makes for ripe ground for demagoguery. He has a very simple answer to all these very, very complex problems.
- [on cancellation of a performance in North Carolina over transgender bathroom issues] Some things are more important than a rock show.
- [introducing Pete Seeger on his 90th birthday party at Madison Square Gardens] He’s gonna look a lot like your granddad that wears flannel shirts and funny hats. He’s gonna look like your granddad if your granddad can kick your ass. At 90, he remains a stealth dagger through the heart of our country’s illusions about itself.
- [at the 2012 Grammy Awards] America, are you alive out there?
- In the third grade a nun stuffed me in a garbage can under her desk because she said that’s where I belonged. I also had the distinction of being the only altar boy knocked down by a priest during mass.
- Adult life is dealing with an enormous amount of questions that don’t have answers. So I let the mystery settle into my music. I don’t deny anything, I don’t advocate anything, I just live with it.
- You know the old saying: Trust the art, not the artist. I think that’s true. I think somebody can do real good work and be a fool in a variety of ways.
- When you get the music and the lyrics right, your voice disappears into the voices of those you’ve chosen to write about… But all the telling detail in the world doesn’t matter if the song lacks an emotional center.
- When I was growing up, there were two things that were unpopular in my house. One was me, and the other was my guitar.
- [on Bob Dylan] Bob freed your mind the way Elvis freed your body. He showed us that just because music was innately physical did not mean that it was anti-intellectual. He had the vision and the talent to make a pop record that contained the whole world.
- [About Elvis Presley] There have been a lot of tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one King.
- [About Elvis Presley] He was as big as the whole country itself, as big as the whole dream. He just embodied the essence of it and he was in mortal combat with the thing. Nothing will ever take the place of that guy.
- [During his Oscar acceptance speech]: Thanks for inviting me to your party.
- When it comes to luck, you make your own.
- Until I realized that rock music was my connection to the rest of the human race, I felt like I was dying, for some reason, and I didn’t know why.

After Springsteen wrote it, he liked the song so much, he used it for his multi-platinum album of the same name instead. As a replacement, Springsteen wrote another song and that song title became the film’s new title, Light of Day (1987). That is why Springsteen thanks Schrader in the liner notes of the album.
