Bruce D. Levenson was born on the 1st October 1949, in Washington, D.C. USA, and is a businessman, best known to the world as the co-founder of the United Communications Group, a business information company, with focus on news and analysis for healthcare, mortgage banking, technology, energy and other aspects. Also, he was a co-owner of the NBA franchise Atlanta Hawks.

Bruce is from a Jewish family, and he grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. After he finished high school, he enrolled at Washington University in St. Louis, and then acquired a law degree at American University, during which time Bruce also served as a journalist at the Washington Star.
In 1977 he teamed up with Ed Peskowitz to start the United Communication Group, through which they published a newsletter Oil Express, specializing in news about progress of the oil industry. Little by little, they began acquiring other magazines that focus on the oil industry, and as a result they soon owned Oil Price Information Service, and GasBuddy, which is a mobile application that helps its users find local low gas prices.
In 2004, he and Peskowitz joined several other businessmen to start the Atlanta Spirit LLC, which is now known as Atlanta Hawks LLC, formed with one goal – to acquire the Atlanta Hawks NBA team from Turner Broadcasting. The bid was successful, and Bruce became co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks, but also co-owned the Atlanta Trashers of the NHL, however, the NHL franchise was sold in 2011. In 2014 Bruce sold his stake in the group, which also increased his net worth.
To speak further of his business endeavors, he is a founding board member and on the Board of Directors of TechTarget, and served as its director from 1999 until 2012.

He is also one of those responsible for launching the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Maryland, and has supported a number of foundations that focus on Jewish people, including Brightright Israel, the Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute, the Jewish Federation, and BBYO, among many other organisations.
