Bruce Bowen Wiki Biography
Born Bruce Eric Bowen Jr. on the 14th June 1971 in Merced, California USA, he is a retired professional basketball player who often changed teams, playing in Europe and USA, but eventually won three NBA Championships with the San Antonio Spurs, in 2003, 2005 and 2007, before retiring in 2009. His playing career was active from 1993 until 2009.
Have you ever wondered how rich Bruce Bowen is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Bowen’s net worth is as high as $12 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career as a basketball player.
Bruce’s parents are Bruce Bowen Sr. and Dietra Campbell. According to his statements, Bruce’s childhood was troublesome, marred by his mother’s drug addiction – she even sold their home TV in order to support her addiction – and his father’s fondness for alcohol. Nevertheless, Bruce found solace on basketball courts both in and outside school. He went to West Fresno Edison High School and soon became a star of the high school squad. After matriculation, he enrolled at Cal State Fullerton, where he continued with his basketball career, and earned selection into the All-Big West Conference First Team in the 1992-1993 season, after averaging 16.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Bruce graduated with a degree in communications in 1993.
Unfortunately, after his college career, Bruce was left undrafted and his journeyman career started. He played firstly in France for two teams, Le Havre through 1993-1994 season and Évreux through the 1994-1995 season. He then moved back to USA and played for Fort Wayne Fury and Rockford Lightning, both of the Continental Basketball Association. His first engagement in the NBA was a 10 day contract with the Miami Heat in 1997, and then he joined the Boston Celtics for who he played from 1997 until 1999, which only increased his wealth.
After a short stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, and again with the Heat, he joined the San Antonio Spurs for whom he played until the end of his career in 2009. He missed only two regular games for the Spurs, and although he wasn’t quite an offensive force, his defensive skills were on a high level, which earned him five NBA All-Defensive First Team selections, from 2004 to 2008, and three NBA All-Defensive Second Team from 2001 to 2003. Also, he won three NBA titles with the Spurs, to which he contributed with his strong defense. His net worth increased thanks to the contracts he signed with the franchise in the second-most populous city of Texas.
Regarding his personal life, Bruce was married to Yardley Barbon from 2004 until 2012; the couple has two children together.
Bruce is also a recognized philanthropist; he started the Bruce Bowen Foundation through which he funds scholarships and bursaries. Thanks to his long and successful career, Bruce was inducted into the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.
