Born Robert Woodward Rahal on the 10th January 1953 in Medina, Ohio USA, he is a retired auto racing driver who competed in Champ Car, and won three titles, in 1986, 1987 and 1992, and is now the owner of the auto racing team Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. His racing career started in the late ‘70s and ended in the late ‘90s.

Bobby is the son of racer Mike Rahal, and is of Lebanese ancestry. After finishing high school, Bobby enrolled at Denison University, after which he began his racing career.

He began competing in the SCCA feeder categories, and in his first season came second behind Gilles Villeneuve in the Formula Atlantic championship for 1977. The following season Bobby was one of the racers of the Wolf Racing Team in the Formula Three series, and as the season was close to its end he was brought into the Formula One Wolf Racing team and participated in two races, at the United States Grand Prix and Canadian Grand Prix, but without any major success. In 1982 he joined Truesports racing team of the PPG Indycar Series and competed for them until the end of the 1988 season. While with Truesports, Bobby had his best years, winning two titles, in 1986 and 1987. After that he joined Kraco Racing, which became Galles-Kraco Racing in 1990. He finished second in the 1991 season and for 1992 season he acquired rights for Pat Patrick Racing team and rebranded it to Rahal-Hogan Racing team with his partner Carl Hogan. That year he won his third and last title, which only increased further his net worth. He raced until 1998 when he decided to retire and focus on other business ventures, including running a racing team.

Two years after his retirement, Bobby assumed the managerial position of the Jaguar Formula One team, however, he was fired because of his attempt to sell Eddie Irvine to team Jordan. He was also the Interim President and CEO of CART in 2000, and he also owns a network of car dealerships in central and western parts of Pennsylvania.

Thanks to his successful career, Bobby has received several prestigious honors and awards, including inductions into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, both in 2004, and SCCA Hall of Fame in 2013. Moreover, he was also inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway- Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2014.

Regarding his personal life, Bobby was married to Debby from 1980 until 2003; the couple has four children, which includes son, Graham, who is also a Champ Car driver.
