Bethany Joy Lenz Wiki Biography
Bethany Joy Lenz was born on 2 April 1981, in Hollywood, Florida USA, to Robert George Lenz, a history teacher and therapist, and Catharine Malcolm Holt Shepard, a personnel manager and entrepreneur, of Australian, Scottish, German and Irish descent. She is an actress, filmmaker and singer-songwriter, best known for her role as Haley James Scott in the television series “One Tree Hill”.
So just how rich is Bethany Joy Lenz? According to sources in late-2016, Lenz has earned a net worth of over $3.5 million, established through her involvement in the film and television industry, as well as through her singing career. She has been active since the late ‘80s.
When Lenz was seven years old, her family moved from to Arlington, Texas, where she attended Pope Elementary, and The Creative Arts Theater and School, taking dance, and acting and theater classes. She matriculated from New Jersey’s Eastern Christian High School in 1999.
Lenz began performing on stage during her early childhood, her first role being a Munchkin in a local production of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. She later performed in several stage productions, such as “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “Annie”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “Gypsy”, “CATS for Cats”, etc.
After various TV-commercial gigs and two uncredited film parts in the early ‘90s, she was cast in the role of Linda Halleck in the 1996 horror “Thinner”. Two years later she was cast as the teenage clone of Reva Shayne in the CBS Daytime soap opera “Guiding Light”, and after a nine-episode gig, she was recast as Michelle Bauer Santos, remaining a main cast member until 2000. Lenz’s performance earned her high praise and considerably added to her net worth.
After several minor film parts, a number of television guest appearances and various stage performances in the early 2000s, Linz was cast as Haley James Scott in the popular WB/CW television drama “One Tree Hill”, which was her breakthrough role. She remained in the main cast until 2011, a year before the show’s cancellation, and even directed several episodes of the show. Her performance of Haley won rave reviews and significantly contributed to Lenz’s wealth.
In the years since, the actress has tackled a mix of television and film work. She guest starred in the series “Men at Work” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, and had a recurring role in the series “Dexter”. Her most recent television appearances were in the series “Colony”, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “American Gothic” in 2016, and her last film part was in the 2016 “Exortion”. Aside from acting, Lenz has also done some producing work; in 2015 she produced the movie “One Of These Days”, written by Phyllis Heltay.
In addition, she has also pursued a singing career – she plays the guitar and piano, and writes her own music. Her first album called “Preincarnate” came out in 2002, and was followed by the 2005 “Come On Home”. During her time on “One Tree Hill”, Lenz performed a number of original tracks, including a duet with costar Tyler Hilton, entitled “When the Stars Go Blue”, after which the duo embarked on the One Tree Hill Tour.
In 2008 she formed a folk band called Everly with musician Amber Sweeney, releasing four EPs and a few singles in the following years. – their performance at a live concert event for military personnel for the USO in 2008 was a basis for one episode of “One Tree Hill”. After the band’s split in 2012, Lenz went on with live solo performances, releasing solo albums “Then Slowly Grows” and “Your Woman”, as well as EPs “Get Back to Gold” and “It’s Christmas”. She currently has her own band called “Joy Lenz and the Firepit Band”, and is working on a new album. Lenz has also been credited for co-creating “The Notebook Musical” with her producer Ron Aniello in 2009, which received numerous positive reviews.
Aside from entertainment, in partnership with German jewelry company Stilnest, she has created her own jewelry line as of 2016.
In her private life, Lenz was married to former Enation keyboardist Michael Galeotti from 2005 to 2012. They have one daughter together.
Lenz is a devoted philanthropist, who has been involved in numerous charity events and organizations, such as Love146, To Write Love on Her Arms, and Reading is Fundamental, largely through social media outlets.

Bethany Joy Lenz Quotes
- Music is something that is in you. You can touch people with your music even if you’re working a job at starbucks or working a desk job.
- I love singing. Getting on stage… it’s like reaching in to the bottom of my soul and bringing it right up. I love it.
- I love being home on rainy days! I usually write and sneak in an I Love Lucy rerun!
- I had a lot of creative energy when I was young. I was not the best student because I was always challenging what the teachers were saying, rather than just accepting it.
- My dream car is a red ’57 Chevrolet pickup. So I’d take a road trip in that for a day, play classic rock music the whole time and then stop at a diner at midnight for some apple pie.
- I eat peanut butter, Swiss cheese and lettuce sandwiches. Really, they’re very good!
- I can’t cook or do crafts. And put a soccer ball or a football in my hand, and I wouldn’t know what to do with it, but if you give me a creative outlet, usually, I’d be able to figure something out.
- So much of my heart is in my music. If you pay close attention to the lyrics, you can get a much better perception of who I am when my guard is down.
- My personal style is just really easy, non fashion concerned. I have a lot of jeans and tee shirts.
- I have no desire to be a star.
- I think I started to see that acting was a really great catharsis for me. I’ve always been really creative and artistic, but I think acting was something that I could pour my creative energy into, and it took all of me. To this day, I haven’t found that feeling anywhere else.
- Lies about your physical appearance in Hollywood creep in like a nasty serpent in your bed. It’s awful. “Who’s got the best outfit?”, “Who’s makeup artist is terrible?”, etc… I’ve really been learning that I have to choose to believe that it is not my clothes or my hair or my makeup that is going to make me shine. It’s a battle I fight everyday with myself.
- I am a down-home girl. I love home and a German shepherd and an old red pickup truck from the ’50s. I would love an old house in Alabama with little kids running in the yard.
- I am an actor. God forbid I say this, but I would be doing it for free because I love it. If I could, I’d do this every day of my life.
- Music’s something I’ll be doing for the rest of my life, whether I’m just playing guitar in my living room or whether I’m playing for 3,000 people.
- Musical theater is oh, my dream. My passion. Music is in my veins. Just being able to mix that passion with my other passion, for acting, would be unbelievable. I have to brush up on my dancing, but I’d definitely love to hit Broadway.
- I guess I’ve sort of always wanted to be an actress, except when I was five, which, I did want to be the Queen of England.
- That’s the exciting thing. I still don’t know what I’m going to be. I love acting. I would love to be an English teacher. I would love to be a housewife and have a chateau in the South of France, I would love to be a singer that travels to cafes around different towns. I am loving to live out my life right now and see where it goes, it’s exciting.
- I am not a people person. It’s not that I am shy, but I am more comfortable in an atmosphere of one-on-one. I hate crowds and parties.
- Favorite holiday: Christmas. “It will always be number one on my list. You feel cozy for like two months straight. You sing songs, all the stories look exactly the same. There’s no other holiday where everybody decorates. There’s a joy and a spirit of excitement that’s in the air around Christmastime. It’s the best.”
- Joining One Tree Hill (2003) has been: “Like summer camp, only it’s really cold in Wilmington, North Carolina! I’ve never lived in a small town, but I always pictured myself in a small house, drinking lemonade on my porch swing. Now I have the porch!”.
- I don’t party. I’m a total homebody. I like hanging out with my cat and I’ve actually been known to stay home and knit.
- I never rule anything out, I just follow where I’m lead.
