Bernard Edward Dicken Wiki Biography
Bernard Edward Sumner was born on 4 January 1956, in Salford, England, and is a songwriter, singer, musician, and record producer, best known to be a founding member of the band Joy Division. He is also a founding member of New Order and is widely credited for New Order’s move towards the electronica genre. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Bernard Sumner? As of mid-2017, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $30 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. He is widely credited for helping UK music and the popularization of sequencers, collaborating with various popular artists, and as he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Bernard attended Salford Grammar School, and after completing his studies worked at the animation studio Cosgrove Hall Films. He formed the band Joy Division in 1976, which found a lot of popularity. They became one of the most influential bands of the time, and this helped his net worth increase significantly. He was the band’s lead guitarist and also played the keyboard in several tracks. He produced his first vocal in the song “They Walked In Line”. In 1980, the lead singer of the band Ian Curtis committed suicide, and it led to the end of Joy Division. The remaining members then started a new band called New Order which was joined by keyboardist Gillian Gilbert. Bernard would become the permanent singer of the band, while continuing to play his instruments. The band has released a total of 10 studio albums.
Other projects Sumner started include Electronic in which he joins Johnny Marr and Neil Tennant for an album. He also formed Bad Lieutenant which was created by the formation of members of several bands including New Order. In 2009, they released the single “Sink or Swim” which would eventually lead to the band’s first album “Never Cry Another Tear”. The band was active until the 2011 reformation of New Order which led to Bad Lieutenant’s hiatus.
Bernard has also collaborated with other artists over the years, including the single “Searching for Heaven” by The Invisible Girls, and he co-produced the single “The Great Divide” by the band Foreign Press. He also worked on various tracks with Sub Sub and 808 State, and on the album “Surrender” by The Chemical Brothers, plus appearing on stage as a special guest when the tracks featuring him were being promoted. He’s produced several remixes too, including “Rockin’ Over the Beat”, and “Freaky Dancin’”. All of these opportunities have helped his net worth rise.
For his personal life, it is known that Sumner married Sue Barlow in 1978; they had a son but divorced in 1989. He later married Sarah Dalton in 1991, and they have three children. Bernard is known to be a fan of Manchester United football club.

Bernard Edward Dicken Quotes
- I think they (U2) were Joy Division fans. I have said some bitchy things about Bono since then, but the truth is, if I’m honest, I’m a little bit jealous of them. They were our peers, but things seemed to go smoothly for them, whereas things seemed to go disastrously wrong for us at every turn.
