Beck David Campbell Wiki Biography
Beck David Campbell was born on the 8th June 1970 in Los Angeles, California, USA, and better known by his stage name Beck Hansen (or simply Beck), is an award-winning singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for his innovative approach to music, experimenting with numerous music genres. His career started in the early 1990s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Beck Hansen is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Beck’s net worth is as high as $25 million, an amount earned through his successful career in music.
Beck Hansen was born into a bohemian, artistic family. His father, David Campbell, is an arranger, composer and conductor, while his mother – Bibbe Hansen – is a performance artist, musician, and actress. He is part Jewish through his mother, and he also has some Norwegian ancestry. His maternal grandfather, Al Hansen, was an artist and a member of the Fluxus movement. He moved around a lot when he was young, splitting time between his mother in Los Angeles and his fraternal grandparents in Kansas. After ninth grade, he decided to leave school, later attending classes at Los Angeles City College, using fake I.D. to get in. Most of his musical knowledge is self-taught. Before he was discovered, he worked a string of menial jobs in order to support himself.
Beck moved to New York in 1989, and performed for a while on the East Village anti-folk scene. However, he soon returned to Los Angeles, where he performed in coffeeshops. He was noticed by the owner of Bongload Records, Tom Rothrock, with whom he made his breakthrough single “Loser” (1993). Following the success of the song, Beck signed with Geffen Records, and released his first studio album, “Mellow Gold” (1994). The album was a blend of several genres, including alternative rock, anti-folk, and neo-psychedelia, but was critically acclaimed and sold over 1.2 million copies. Beck also continued to release music for smaller, independent labels, such as Flipside. On his second official studio album, “Odeley” (1996), Beck similarly blended genres, this time country, jazz, blues, rap and rock. The album received universal acclaim, and spawned singles such as “Where It’s At”, “Devils Haircut”, and “The New Pollution”. His net worth was rising steadily.
On the whole, Beck has released fifteen albums, three of them independently and twelve through major labels. With every new album, he tried to do something new, never settling on one genre, though he is usually labeled as indie, or alternative rock. His music is perhaps best described as a collage of different styles and genres. The official recognition of his talent and innovative music work has come in the form of five Grammy Awards from 16 nominations. In his decades-long career, Beck has collaborated with many famous musicians, including Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Nate Russ from the band Fun. He also collaborated with his grandfather, Al Hansen, in order to put on an artistic exhibition called “Beck & Al Hansen: Playing With Matches” in 1998.
Regarding his personal life, Beck is married to actress Marissa Ribisi, who is the twin sister of actor Giovanni Ribisi. Both Marissa and Beck are devoted scientologists; together they have two children, a son and a daughter.

Beck David Campbell Quotes
- [describing the ‘through-line’ of his most recent recordings, 2014] A kind of shedding of skin or some sort of attempt to manifest in words and melody some kind of experience, some quality of observation. That’s all it is really.
- A record company is like a giant ATM machine.
- I’m just bursting onto the scene like a pathetic, gold-plated sperm.

- Has an album in the works. He said that this album was being produced before “Guero”.
- Six songs from “Guero” were featured on the hit teen drama The O.C. (2003).
- On the song “E-Pro” from the album “Guero”, he gave a co-writing credit to Beastie Boys, as the backing beat to the song came from the Beastie’s “So What’cha Want”. Although he was not required to give them a writing credit (he could have merely given the “contains a sample from” credit), he did so out of respect and friendship for that group.
- During his childhood, he pretty much had no friends, which gave him time to discover and practice his musical talent.

- Son, Cosimo Henri Hansen, born May 2004, with Marissa Ribisi.
- Up until Beck did the album “Mutations,” he played virtually all the instruments on almost all of the songs on his recordings. From “Mutations” on, he continued to produce and write the material, but recorded it with a band.
- The Dust Brothers, the famous producing team who worked with Beck on “Odelay,” require a writing credit on all songs they produce, but they admitted that (more so than any collaborator they’ve had) Beck was responsible for the sound of “Odelay” and wrote virtually all of the words and music.
- The album “Sea Changes” was allegedly inspired by his heartbreak from the end of his relationship with longtime girlfriend Leigh Limon.
