Arie Luyendyk Jr. was born on the 18th September 1981, in s’Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and is an auto racing pilot, and the son of automobile pilot Arie Luyendyk. Luyendyk Jr. began his kart career in 1992, and in 1998 competed for the first time in Formula Ford. He subsequently competed in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons of the Indy 500, achieving his first victory in this category during the 2008 season. He ended his career in 2010.

In addition, Luyendyk tried to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in 2005, but failed to do so. In 2006, Luyendyk finally made his debut in the IndyCar Series in his father’s team at the Indianapolis 500, however, he was only able to qualify in 28th place, and finished 36th in the driver’s ranking. He also started in four races of the IRL Indy Pro Series, the successor to the IRL Infiniti Pro Series for AFS Racing in 2006, and finished the season in 15th place. In 2007, Luyendyk took part in two IRL Indy Pro Series races for Guthrie Racing and finished 35th in the championship; he also started in a race of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). In 2008 the Pro Series was renamed again. For Andretti Green -AFS Racing, Luyendyk joined Raphael Matos in the Indy Lights. At the season finals in Joliet, he managed to win his first race in the Indy Lights, and eventually Luyendyk finished 4th overall in the championship. One year later, Luyendyk returned to the Indy Lights for four races in 2010, and with 7th place as his best result, he finished the season in 17th overall ranking.
