Anthony Kiedis Wiki Biography

Anthony Joseph Kiedis was born on 1st November 1962, in Grand Rapids, Michigan USA, of ancestry including Lithuanian, English, Irish, French, Dutch, and Mohican. He rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the band he co-founded, Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Anthony Kiedis is also recognised under the nicknames Tony Flow, Cole Dammett and Antoine the Swan. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 1978.

So, is the man who has spent more than 30 years on the stage wealthy enough? It has been reported that the current net worth of Anthony Kiedis is as high as $120 million, most of his wealth having come from his performances with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

To begin with, his parents divorced when Anthony Keidis was only three years old, and he was first raised by his mother, Peggy and stepfather, and then from his early teens Anthony lived with his father, actor Blackie Dammett in Los Angeles, who unfortunately introduced him to drugs.

In 1978, Anthony debuted on the big screen with a minor role in the film “F.I.S.T.” (1978), directed by Norman Jewison. Since then, he has appeared on the screen playing himself, and in other roles this way adding to his net worth, too. In 2014, he debuted as an executive producer, with the film “Low Down”.

The career of the vocalist Kiedis began in 1983. Anthony, alongside Michael Balzary (Flea), Hillel Slovak, and Jack Irons founded the band called the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band initially gave concerts in clubs and bars. In 1984 their first, self-titled album was released. After some disagreements and changes in the band, their second album, entitled “Freaky Styley” (1985) was released. It was produced by the outstanding personality George Clinton. The third album, “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan” (1987) was the first (and last), released by the original composition of the band. During their promotional tour, Kiedis and Hillel got heavily addicted to heroin, and in 1988 Hillel died after overdosing. After that incident, Jack Irons left the band.

At that time it seemed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers would die out, but the band rose like a phoenix from the ashes. Kiedis gave up drugs, and two new members joined them. The group released the album “Mother’s Milk” (1989), which became a hit, and the band reached their highest fame with their next album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” (1991), which also became a hit, and the songs “Give It Away” and “Under the Bridge” became anthems of the band and were sung during every concert. Needless to say that the members of the band, and especially the leading vocalist, Kiedis, became very wealthy as well as famous.

Due to a change of personnel, the band then experienced a silent period. However, the third coming of the band began in 1999, with the return of former member John Frusciante. This recovery was marked by three excellent albums as follows: “Californication” (1999), “By The Way” (2002), and “Stadium Arcadium” (2006). Those albums established the group as one of the best in the world. The band has now released 10 albums, and in 2012, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Anthony Kiedis has had a number of girlfriends. In 2007, he fathered a son from a relationship with model Heather Christie. However, currently he is apparently in a relationship with the model Helena Vestergaard.

Anthony Kiedis Quotes

  • What doesn’t kill you only makes your book longer.
  • When I was younger, I used to hate Germany. I hated the country, the people, the language, the culture, everything! But over the years I’ve grown to really appreciate the German people. I learned to admire their culture, the films, the poetry, the sculptures, the paintings, the music, and also the beautiful countryside. After all those years, and going there so many times, I really learned to love the country!
  • “I inherited my father’s insatiable desire to meet all the beautiful girls in the world”.
  • [About kissing band mate Dave Navarro in the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Warped” video]: “It was totally spontaneous. It was no big deal. It was not any sort of contrived design to shock. The funny thing is people are so close-minded and uptight and freaked out by human contact of the same sex that it ended up having a shocking impact. Probably a lot of people couldn’t handle it and decided they didn’t like us. And that’s okay, because to me it’s more important to make someone that can relate to it feel good than to worry about people with a bad case of homophobia. I have a sneaking suspicion that there were probably a lot of frat guys out there who just could not handle the concept. But this is just my own imagination. Apparently the Russians love it though. They’re kissers from way back” – interview in the March 5th, 1996 issue of the Toronto Sun.
