Anna Torv Wiki Biography

Anna Torv was born on 7 June 1979, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to Susan and Hans Torv of Scottish and Estonian descent. She is an actress perhaps best known for her role of FBI agent Olivia Dunham in the Fox television series “Fringe”.

So just how wealthy is Anna Torv at present? Sources state that Torv has earned a net worth of over $6 million, as of late 2016, acquired during her acting career which began in the early 2000s.

Corv grew up on the Gold Coast, Queensland, along with her brother, where she attended Benowa State High School, matriculating in 1996. She then enrolled in Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, obtaining a degree in Performing Arts in 2001. While at NIDA, she appeared in various theater productions, such as in the plays “Plenty”, “Ring Round the Moon” and “Goodnight Children Everywhere”, just establishing her net worth.

After completing her education, Corv pursued a professional acting career, making her stage debut with the role of Amelia, the lead female in a 2002 production of “The Credeaux Canvas”. The same year she made her television debut, appearing in the television film “White Collar Blue” and in the series “Young Lions”.

Her big screen debut came the following year, with the role of Debra Fowler in “Traveling Light”. Around the same time, she played Ophelia in a production of “Hamlet” with the Bell Shakespeare Company. Paving her way to recognition, Corv’s net worth began to rise.

A year later, she was cast in the Australian popular television drama “The Secret Life of Us”, playing Nikki Martel during the show’s fourth season, and she also had a recurring role in the series “McLeod’s Daughters” in 2004. After landing parts in the film “The Book of Revelation” and the TV film “Frankenstein”, Torv had a recurring role of Alex in the 2008 BBC television series “Mistresses”. All added to her wealth.

Later that year, she broke into the USA television, being cast in the hit FOX sci-fi television series “Fringe”, playing special agent Olivia Dunham until 2013; her performance earned her an Australians in Film Breakthrough award, as well as four Saturn Awards for Best Television Actress. Aside from making her a recognized figure among US audiences, the show provided her with a sizable income.

In the meantime, Torv appeared in the series “The Pacific” and “Open”, then in 2014 she landed the role of Virginia Grey in the film “Love Is Now”. In the years since, the actress has tackled a mix of television and film work. She played Anna in the film “The Daughter”, and made appearances in the Australian mini-series “Deadline Gallipoli” and “Secret City”, considerably improving her fortune.

In addition to television and big screen, Torv has also done some voice-over work, providing her voice to the character of Nariko in two “Heavenly Sword” video games.

The actress is currently involved in two projects. She will star in the supernatural horror film “Stephanie” and take the lead role of psychologist Wendy in the television drama series “Midhunter”, both set to be released in 2017.

When it comes to her private life, in 2008 Torv married actor Mark Valley, with whom she co-starred in the series “Fringe”, however, the couple divorced a year later.

Anna Torv Quotes

  • I am always in a better mood playing the ‘alternate’ Olivia. When there’s less responsibility life’s kind of cool.
  • [on having to impersonate Leonard Nimoy on Fringe (2008)]: I was not excited when that script came out. I was fearful. So what do you do? You call the people that are much better than you and say, “Help!” [Laughs] John [Noble] had worked with Leonard, plus I was so, so nervous, I wanted to make sure that, when I went to the set to do it for the first time, there was at least one person that I could look at who I had done it with before and trusted. It offered an element of comfort… I got an email saying, “I’ve been hearing good things about your impersonation of me”. I wrote back, “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. Why they didn’t give it to Josh [Jackson] or John [Noble], I don’t know”. He was so darling, he wrote back, “It wouldn’t have been as charming”.
  • [on who inspires her as an actor]: I just adore Kate Winslet. I love her because you’re never aware of all the stuff that’s going into her characterization and, yet, she completely transforms. She also has this incandescent warmth to her, and that’s a quality that is hers. She’s approachable and damn believable.
  • That sex scene in The Pacific (2010)? You don’t get that on Fringe (2008), do you? I don’t think anyone finds them easy. It’s not that I’m embarrassed about my boobs. It’s just that some part of you really doesn’t want that out there. At the same time, you want to get good at it. In the moment, what you’re really thinking is, Shit, I need a mint.
  • Sometimes there will be a line in the script and I just can’t imagine saying it. I’ll ask an American and they’ll say, “Oh, yeah. That’s how we say it.” We just say things differently in Australia – like torch. I’d ask, “Can I have the torch?” It seems to fall flat when I say, “Can I have the flashlight?”
  • I didn’t know much about video games. There are some awfully violent ones. But Heavenly Sword (2007) is different. I’ve had huge conversations with a friend who made it. I think what he wants to do is to make the player care. Yes, there’s killing. But the character I play in “Heavenly Sword”, “Nariko”, is ultimately protecting her family and this runaway girl. It’s a beautiful game. It’s beyond a video game. The landscape is to protect and to care. My friend is working toward a world where you get an emotion out of the people who are playing it. See if you can make them cry if they couldn’t save the people who they were trying to protect. This isn’t “Pac-Man”.
  • It doesn’t necessarily matter what your answer is to the question: What is art? So long as you have one.
  • I don’t feel like I’ve hit my stride. So I wonder what the moment will be when I get to be who I want to be.
