Anika Noni Rose Wiki Biography
Anika Noni Rose was born on the 6th September 1972, in Bloomfield, Connecticut USA, and is a singer and actress, both in theatre and the cinema, including winning the Tony Award for the Best Actress in a Musical in 2004, for her role in “Caroline, or Change”. As a film actress, her most famous role is that of Lorrell Robinson in “Dreamgirls” (2006). Rose has been active in the entertainment industry since 1998.
How much is the net worth of Anika Noni Rose? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the outright size of her wealth is as much as $3 million, as of the data presented in early 2017. Acting is the main source of Rose’s modest fortune.
To begin with, she came into contact with singing and acting at high school. Later, Anika Noni Rose attended Florida A&M University, from where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre science. After her drama studies at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, she went to New York to pursue a career as an actress.
In 1998, she celebrated her Broadway debut with her supporting role of Rusty in the musical “Footloose”, which followed appearances in off Broadway productions. In 2004, she obtained the main role in Tony Kushner’s play “Caroline, or Change”, and for her interpretation of Emmie Thibodeaux, Anika won a Theater World Award. She was also awarded the Best Actress at the Lucille Lortel and the Clarence Derwent Awards. In 2014, Anika returned to Broadway for the play “A Raisin in the Sun”, and received a nomination for the Best Actress at the Tony Awards. Of course these were steady contributors to her net worth.
Parallel to her work in the theatre, Anika Noni Rose also appeared in films and television. Between 2008 and 2009, she played one of the main roles in the television series “The Ladies’ Detective Agency No. 1”, with a new wave of nominations for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role came for Anika, notably the Image and the Satellite Awards. Then, she was chosen by the production company Walt Disney Studios to be the voice of the main character in the animated film “The Princess and the Frog” (2009), which was a huge commercial success and Anika was awarded the Women Film Critics Circle for the Best Female Animation, and won her first Black Reel Awards in the Best Voice Performance category. In 2010, she played the role of Yasmine in the romantic drama “The Colours of Fate”, with Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Kerry Washington and the Oscar-winning Whoopi Goldberg. The film was above all expectations, and the performance of Anika was again noticed by critics, so she received a nomination as the Best Actress at the Black Reel Awards. Afterwards, she had a recurring role in the award winning series “The Good Wife” (2010 – 2013), and was notably awarded a prize at the Peabody Awards, the ceremony considered one of the most prestigious and one of the oldest in the field of entertainment. In 2011, she was named a Disney Legend, a trophy that recognizes the men and women who have contributed most to the company. Her exceptional participation in an episode of the cult series “Law & Order” (2012) was cited at the NAACP Image Awards, and in 2013 she was one of the headliners of the historical “Half of a Yellow Sun” – this film was the second biggest box office hit in the history of Nigerian cinema. Her net worth was rising steadily.
On television, she appeared in the film “The Watsons Go to Birmingham”, and for her role as a loving and devoted mother, she won the Best Actress Black Reel Award in 2014. That year, she played in the drama “Imperial Dreams”, also winning the Public Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Between 2015 and 2016, she had a role in the series “Bates Motel”, the prequel of contemporary film “Psycho” by Alfred Hitchcock, and Anika was recognized to be the Best Actress by the NAACP Image Awards, the NAMIC Visions Awards, the Women’s Image Network Awards and again for a Black Reel Awards.
Finally, in the personal life of Rose, she is married to Peter, but that’s all the info available to the media – the rest is private!
