Andy Summers Wiki Biography
Andrew James Summers was born on 31 December 1942, in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England, and is a musician, best known to the world as a guitarist of the rock band Police, however, he has also had a respectable solo career, releasing 11 albums including “XYZ” (1987), “World Gone Strange” (1991), and “Metal Dog” (2015), among others. His career began in the mid ‘60s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Andy Summers is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Andy`s net worth is as high as $100 million, earned largely through his successful career in the music industry. Apart from working as a musician, Andy has also published several books, including “Throb” (1983), “One Train Later” (2006), and “Desired Walks the Streets” (2008), the sales of which have also increased his net worth.
Although born in Loulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, Andy spent most of his childhood in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. He took piano lessons from an early age, however, he opted for the guitar when he was 13, and just three years later he was playing in local clubs. He then moved to London in order to pursue his musical career full-time, with Zoot Money, and soon the two formed Zoot Money`s Big Roll Band. In the mid ‘60s they changed the name to Dantalian`s Chariot, but soon the band broke up, and Andy became a part of the band The Soft Machine, and also played with The Animals. At the time he was in Los Angeles, but after several – mostly unsuccessful – years, Andy returned to London, and played with such musicians as Kevin Coyne, Jon Lord, Neil Sedaka, David Essex and Kevin Ayers.
His luck turned around in the late ‘70s, when he became a part of the band The Police, replacing guitarist Henri Padovani and joining Sting and Stewart Copeland. Upon his arrival, the band started working on their debut album, which came out in late 1978 entitled “Outlandos d’Amour”, and which reached No. 6 on the UK chart, while achieving platinum status in the UK, Canada, France and US, increasing Andy`s net worth considerably. Encouraged by this success, the band continued in the same rhythm, and their second album, “Regatta de Blanc” (1979), was a complete success, topping the UK chart, while it also reached No. 1 in Australia, Canada, France and Nederland. Furthermore, it was also certified platinum in several countries, adding further to Andy`s net worth.
The Police continued to dominate the music scene, and with albums “Znyatta Mondatta” (1980), “Ghost in the Machine” (1981), and “Synchronicity”, the members only cemented their place in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. However, just a year after their most successful album, “Synchronicity”, which topped the charts in several European countries and also reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, the group disbanded. During their existence, they produced such hits as “Roxanne”, “Message in a Bottle”, “Walking on the Moon”, “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”, and “Every Breath You Take”, among others.
After The Police, Andy took matters into his own hands and started a solo career; his first album, “XYZ” (1987), is the only non-instrumental album that he signed. He has released ten more albums to the present day, including “Synaesthesia” (1996), “Earth + Sky” (2004), and “Metal Dog” (2015). Also, Andy has collaborated with numerous musicians, including Robert Fripp, John Etheridge, Fernanda Takai, among many others, successes which also increased his net worth.
Thanks to his skills, Andy has received several prestigious awards, including five Grammys, and also in 2003 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his two colleagues from The Police, Sting, and Stewart Copeland.
Regarding his personal life, Andy has been married for the second time to Kate Summers since 1985 – they were previously married from 1973-81; they have three children. He was married to Robin Lane from 1968 until 1970.
