Andrew Luster Wiki Biography
Andrew Stuart Luster is the American great-grandson of Max Factor Sr, the Hollywood cosmetics giant, through adoption. He was born on the 15th of December, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is currently incarcerated in Mule Creek State Prison on criminal charges of rape, sodomy, sexual battery, oral copulation, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
How rich is Andrew Luster? Sources estimate his net worth at minus -$10 million. He has declared bankruptcy.
Luster’s mother, Elizabeth, was the adopted daughter of Max Factor Sr.’s biological daughter, Freda. Andrew lived a life of privilege and wealth, being one of the heirs to his great-grandfather’s cosmetics millions. His childhood was spent largely in Malibu. Upon leaving Windward School, he moved to Mussel Shoals, California, where he resided in a beach cottage worth a reported $600,000. He did little with his time, surfing and using his large trust fund, worth between $1 and $3 million. This estranged him from the rest of the Factor family, who were more active in philanthropic and artistic works.
In 2000, after one initial accusation from a woman who claimed to have been raped by Luster, he was brought to trial for drugging and raping three women, having used GHB on them. He then videotaped his attacks. These tapes dated back to as late as 1991. Luster paid $1 million bail, but then absconded, and in absentia he was convicted, and sentenced to 124 years in prison. He was captured in 2003, by television’s “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, Duane Lee Chapman, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Chapman had been planning on how to capture the cosmetics heir for months beforehand, and finally found him after receiving a tip from a man who had been vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, and who had been out drinking and partying with Luster. Chapman pepper sprayed Luster to subdue him.
Luster is currently serving his sentence in Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California. In 2013, his sentence was reduced to 50 years, meaning that he will be eligible for parole as soon as 2028. His lawyers are still fighting for a further reduced sentence. Since his conviction, two of Luster’s victims have won civil suits. After he was ordered to pay $40 million between the two women, Luster declared bankruptcy, and lost the majority of his property and possessions of value. The actual amount his victims will receive is still being established.
Luster’s crimes were used as the basis for the TV film “A Date with Darkness: The Trial and Capture of Andrew Luster”. The project began filming whilst Luster was still a fugitive from justice, although he was captured before filming wrapped. Jason Gedrick, star of shows and movies including “Iron Eagle” and “Murder One”, played the role of Andrew Luster. The case was also covered in a 2009 episode of the documentary show “Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege, and Justice”.
In his personal life, Luster has two children whose mothers are unknown. Before his incarceration, he participated in sports and athletic pursuits such as skiing and rock climbing.
