His career started in 1989.
Have you ever wondered how rich Andre Braugher is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Braugher’s net worth is as high as $8 million, an amount earned through his successful career as an actor, during which he has won two Primetime Emmy Awards, and is also a two-time nominee for the Golden Globe Award.
Andre is the youngest child of four to Floyd Braugher, who was a heavy-equipment operator and his wife Sally, who worked as a postal worker. Andre went to St. Ignatius College Prep, and after matriculation enrolled at Stanford University. He studied medicine, but soon changed his major to theater and drama, in which he received his BA degree in 1984. After that he furthered his education at the Julliard Schools Drama Division, from which he obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1988, receiving high honors as he was named as the Most Outstanding Theater Student at graduation.
Andre’s career began with the role of Detective Winston Blake in the television film “Kojak: Fatal Flow” in 1989, and he reprised the role in sequels “Kojak: Ariana” (1989), “Kojak: None So Blind” (1990), “Kojak: It’s Always Something” (1990), “Kojak: Flowers for Matty” (1990), which made his name popular in the Hollywood area. In 1989 he featured in the Edward Zwick’s Academy Award- winning war drama “Glory”, starring Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Cary Elwes, and the following year he starred in the biopic about Jackie Robinson, entitled “The Court-Martial of Jackie Robinson”, next to Daniel Stern and Ruby Dee. His net worth was well set.
Three years later he was selected for the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in the crime investigation TV series “Homicide: Life on the Street” (1993-1998), which greatly influenced Andre’s career as he even won the Primetime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Through the ‘90s, Andre had roles in such productions as the Academy Award- nominated mystery drama “Primal Fear” (1996), starring Richard Gere, Edward Norton and Laura Linney, and the Golden Globe Award- nominated romantic drama “City of Angels” (1998), with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan in lead roles.
At the beginning of the new millennium, Andre was rather busy; he portrayed Frank Pembleton in the television film “Homicide: The Movie” (2000), then featured in the Golden Globe Award- nominated mystery drama “Frequency”, and portrayed Dr. Ben Gideon in the TV series “Gideon’s Crossing” (2000-2001). From 2002 until 2004 he was the star of the TV series “Hack”, and then in 2006 appeared in the Academy Award- nominated action adventure “Poseidon”, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Kurt Russell and Emmy Rossum, while also starring in the TV series “Thief” (2006), which earned him his second Primetime Emmy Award. In 2007 he had a supporting role in the horror “The Mist”, directed by Frank Darobont, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. His net worth was still rising.
From 2009 to 2011 he starred in the Ray Romano’s TV comedy series “Men of a Certain Age”, then played Bayard Ellis for the first time in the TV crime investigation series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, and until 2015 appeared five more times, meantime in 2012 and 2013 starring in the short live Primetime Emmy Award- nominated TV series “Last Resort”.
He was cast in another detective role as Captain Ray Holt in the TV crime investigation series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013-2017), receiving $100,000 per episode, having appeared in 81 episodes, which has significantly increased his net worth.
