Alex Mandel is the son of the famous actor, comedian, and producer Howie Mandel and Terry. He is the middle of two sisters, growing up Alex suffered from a severe stutter, and at one point, he quit talking for almost a year. However, speech therapy was helpful, so he could communicate without problems. Later, he was diagnosed with ADHD which made things difficult at the school. Alex’s father often tried to cheer him up with comedy, and Alex liked that.

Soon after, he realized that he wasn’t only talented, but he was entertaining as well,so Mandel signed up for community theater and told his parents that he would like to be an actor. His father backed him up, and landed him a first role in the sitcom called “Hidden Howie, The Private Life of a Public Nuisance” (2005), when Alex was only 15. He continued to act here and there until high school matriculation in 2008. Howie convinced him to try to go to college and promised that he would give him an opportunity in production.

Alex went to California State University, Northridge with a major in Theater. He joined the, Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, and was PR and Philanthropy Chair during his time, which was the most successful period in the history of his fraternity. The producers told him to upload his video to YouTube, but he kept it public, so over 1000 people saw it in one day instead of the casting director only. He didn’t get the part, but the character of Samuel remains, and Alex continued to make videos for months; Mandel realized that YouTube was his future.

Alex watched YouTube videos for most of the time, and attended the YouTube convention to meet all of his favorite YouTubers. Mandel met Roman Atwood, who would become his best friend and mentor; Atwood introduced him to vlogging, and Alex started to climb in the YouTube world. He created videos for many YouTubers, including his friend Atwood. Mandel got a call from Break (prank videos) and made a video that hit six million views in two days.
