Al Sharpton Wiki Biography
Alfred Charles Sharpton Jr. was born on 3rd October 1954, in Brooklyn, New York USA of Native American descent. He is a trusted White House advisor, American Baptist Minister, activist for civil rights, and a television personality. The National Youth Movement was established by Al Sharpton in 1971. Sharpton is a member of the Democratic Party, but still a discrepant political figure who struggles for racial equality and justice. He has been active in politics since 1969.
Is Al Sharpton rich? It has been estimated by reliable sources that his net worth is as high as $500 thousand. More, it should be noted that he earns $500,000 per season as the host of “Politics Nation” on MSNBC. However, a year ago Sharpton had serious financial problems as he was alleged to owe $3.7 million in personal taxes according to The Times.
To begin with, Al Sharpton was born in Brooklyn, and raised in the Brownsville neighbourhood of New York, USA. From an early age he was noted for eloquence and fighting for justice and equality. Being just four years old, he was able to preach his first sermon. Later, he and the gospel singer, Mahalia Jacson, toured together. What is more, being only nine years old Al was ordained and licensed as a Pentecostal minister. Then, he graduated from high school and studied at college for a few years, but dropped out and he did managerial work while planning and implementing the tours for James Brown in 1973.
At that time, he was also active in politics and founded the organization called the National Youth Movement. In the 1980’s Al Sharpton was baptized and after a decade spent working for the Bethany Baptist Church he became a Baptist Minister. He is a supporter of the president Barack Obama and is a trustee of White House. He is an activist for animal rights and for the rights of gays and lesbians. More, he supports the idea of same sex marriage. He is known for using contentious language in public. Sharpton ran for a Senate Seat, for Mayor of New York Seat and took part in the Presidential Campaign 2004.
Furthermore, he has made a career as a radio and television host. Since 2006, Al Sharpton has been hosting the radio talk-back program “Keepin’ It Real With Al Sharpton” (2006 – present). “PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton” (2011 – present) broadcast on MSNBC is also hosted by Al himself. In addition to this, he has appeared in lots of films including “Malcolm X” (1992), “Bamboozled” (2000), “Mr. Deeds” (2002) and episodes of various television series. He has been invited as a guest onto many shows, including “Saturday Night Live”, “The Morton Downey, Jr. Show” and “Weekends at the DL”. All these appearances on radio and television have added to his fame and wealth, too.
Al Sharpton married his first wife Kathy Jordan in 1980. After spending more than 20 years together, they divorced in 2004. Sharpton is now married to his second wife Marsha Tinsley, but apparently has a less than private relationship with a girlfriend Aisha McShaw.

Al Sharpton Quotes
- I knew from the age of four that I wanted to preach. I didn’t even consider it strange that grown people were listening to this kid preaching until I was around thirteen. I have never believed in limitations.
