Chris Martin Trademarks
- His distinctive singing voice
- When performing usually has the words ‘make trade fair.com’ written on his left hand or, since 2005, an equal sign (“=”).
Chris Martin Quotes
- I would still give my left ball to write anything as good as OK Computer.
- [inducting Peter Gabriel into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame] And Phil The Collins said unto him, “Who are you, oh angel?” And the angel replied, “I am Gabriel.” … “Ye shall be the singer of Genesis now.” And the Phil that was called Collins was awestruck in the presence of the angel and replied, “How can this be, oh angel? I am but a humble drummer. I can’t dance. I can’t talk. The only thing about me is the way I walk.”
- [on A-Ha] Unbelievable songwriting. One of the first bands I loved.
- We’re one of the world’s worst but most enthusiastic plagiarists as a band. We’ll try and copy anything but tends to fail so we come up with something that’s a bit…sounds like us, only through trying to sound like somebody else.
- You can try to be catchy without being slick, poppy without being pop, and you can be uplifting without being pompous. Because we’re sometimes playing quieter stuff, it’s hard to sound like we’re trying to change things, but we wanted to be a reaction against soulless rubbish.
- We want to make something that moves us when we hear it. Because after all the hype and awards and whatever, that’s all music is.
- When I’m 40, too old to be a rock star, I plan to go back to college to study classical music.
- I think shareholders are the great evil of this modern world.
- [on EMI] Deadlines mean nothing to us. We’ll sink the whole company if we have to.
- It’s hard for us sometimes because we are English and we do not like to admit that we think we are great.
- Being voted the world’s sexiest vegetarian is about as cool as it gets. It’s not quite as cool as Brad Pitt, but it’ll do. Those have been the two biggest challenges of my life: trying to follow Radiohead, and trying to follow Brad Pitt.
- People like Richard Ashcroft and Morrissey (Morrissey) are brilliant but when there’s a band there’s a little bit of spark there; a bit of tension maybe that makes it work.
- Awards are essentially nonsense, but we’re all going to die when George Bush (George W. Bush) has his way – it’s good to go out with a bang.
