Emilio Estefan was born on 4 March 1953, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, and he is a successful musician, actor producer and much more. Emilio is a Cuban-American and has Spanish, Lebanese and Syrian ancestry. Estefan became notable as a founder of the Miami Latin Boys group.
So how rich is Emilio Estefan? According to various sources, his net worth is estimated to be over $500 million as of early 2016. His assets includes a home in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, worth $1 million. No doubt that Estefan has accumulated his wealth from business interests along with his wife, developing new talents and of course, his musical career.
Group Miami Latin Boys was founded in 1975 and became very popular two years later, just after Gloria María Fajardo García joined the group. In 1978, the group was reorganized and renamed to Miami Sound Machine. Meanwhile, Emilio Estafan had started his other career as a talent hunter and producer of many celebrities in the music industry. He has also directed many television events, especially on Hispanic television, such as Nuestra Navidad, Showtime, The Latin Grammy’s, The Hispanic Heritage Awards and many others.
Emilio debuted as a director and producer of documentaries in 2008. He continued to produce other full-length documentaries and even the Broadway musical “On Your feet!”.
Not only is Estefan a musician, he’s also an author; his first book “The Rhythm of Success – How An Immigrant Produced His Own American Dream” published in 2010 became extremely popular. One year later, co-operating with writer Carlos Pintado and journalist Carlos Alberto Montaner, he released another book “The Exile Experience: A Journey to Freedom”. Both added to his net worth.
Moreover, Emilio is a businessman, since he runs Cuban-themed restaurants and bars in the Miami Beach, and three hotels – Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, The Cardozo in Miami Beach, and Costa d’Este in Vero Beach with his wife. Also, he has casinos in Hollywood and Miami, and Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney in Orlando.
It’s worth mentioning that Estefan and his wife Gloria became the owners of the American football team the Miami Dolphins in 2009 and that made them the first Hispanics to buy ownership in an NFL team. More, in 2014 Emilio became a Miami Dade Special Ambassador.
Estefan has received many awards and honors but the most impressive are doctoral degrees from the University of Miami, Barry University, Florida International University and Berklee College of Music. Also, he was rewarded with President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities by President George W. Bush in 2002 and together with his wife was honored by President Barack Obama with Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.
In his personal life, Emilio Estefan met his future wife Gloria María Fajardo García, when she joined the group Miami Latin Boys, of which Emilio was the band leader. The couple started dating in 1976 and married two years later, and they have a son and a daughter.
