Carl Cox Wiki Biography

Carl Cox was born on 29 July 1962, in Oldham, Lancashire, England, of Afro-Barbadian descent. He is a British house and techno DJ and producer, considered as one of the best DJs in the world.

A respected DJ, how rich is Carl Cox? Sources state that Cox has earned a net worth of over $16 million, as of late-2016. His fortune has been established during his music career which began in the early 1980s.

Cox expressed an interest in music at an early age, starting his music career when he was 15 years old by working as a mobile DJ at various local events. He went on to study electrical engineering in college, but soon left school to become a full-time DJ. After his passion for disco music in the ‘70s, he moved on to play rare groove, New York hip-hop and electro in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. With the introduction of house into the world of dance music during the mid-‘80s, Cox found his niche and went on to establish his reputation during the acid house and immense rave explosion of the late ‘80s. He played at various clubs, such as the legendary Shoom, Spectrum and Land of Oz, establishing his personal technique of using three decks on the mix, which made him extremely popular, and put him among the best DJs of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.

Signing with Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label, Cox released his debut single “I Want You (Forever)” in 1991, hitting #23 on the British charts. Two more singles followed, the 1992 “Does It Feel Good to You”, and the 1993 “The Planet of Love”, also reaching the Top 40. His net worth started to rise.

After embracing the underground sounds of techno that became popular at the time, Cox released the first volume of what became the popular mix compilation series “F.A.C.T.: Future Alliance of Communications and Technology”, which sold over 250.000 copies. The following year he released the EP ‘Two Paintings and a Drum”, which dominated the British charts, and his first studio album “At the End of the Cliché”. His second album, “Phuture 2000”, was released in 1999. His wealth was boosted.

The same year Cox set up his own record label, Intec Records, and went on to release his third album “Second Sign” the following year. He also released many singles, compilations and remixes, scoring a number of of underground hits, among them the acclaimed “Pure Intec” and “Back to Mine” compilations. His label then took a seven-year hiatus, and was relaunched in 2010 as Intec Digital. The following year saw the release of Cox’s fourth and last studio album, “All Roads Lead To The Dancefloor”, achieving critical acclaim. In the years since, he has released a number of singles containing a diverse set of collaborations, as well as several compilations and remixes.

Aside from recording, Cox has also played at famous events, and places such as the now defunct London’s Velvet Underground club, and the Millennium on New Year’s Eve in Sydney Australia, and Hawaii. He has also featured his own Carl Cox & Friends stage at many festivals, including Ultra Music Festival, Awakenings and the BPM Festival. He has been a resident of Music is Revolution at the world renowned nightclub Space Ibiza for 14 consecutive years, ending his hosting in 2016. He is still producing music using his own stage on a yearly basis.

In addition, Cox has his own radio show known as ‘Global’, having over 17 million weekly listeners across the world, and being syndicated across over 60 terrestrial FM, satellite and DAB stations throughout 35 countries.

All this has enabled the talented DJ to reach an extremely high level of fame, and to be considered as one of the best and most followed broadcasters in the world. It has also enabled him to enjoy a significant net worth.

In his private life, Cox hasn’t been married; sources believe he is single at present.
