Michael Shawn McCary Wiki Biography

Michael Sean McCary was born on 16 December 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, and is a singer, best known to have been the bass singer of the R&B group Boyz II Men. He’s been part of the band since its creation, only leaving the group due to health and personal problems. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Michael McCary? As of mid-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $35 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. Aside from music, he’s also been a part of several films, and has appeared as a guest in television shows. As he continues his endeavors, it is expected that his wealth will increase.

At a young age, Michael’s family noticed his deep voice and gave him the nickname “Bass”. He changed his last name to McCary as his father was convicted of a crime when he was younger. Eventually, he would meet future members of Boyz II Men, hearing them singing in a public restroom and deciding to join in with a bass tone. Soon he was invited to join the group.

McCary helped raise Boyz II Men’s popularity thanks to his deep voice. The group started out as an R&B quartet in the 1990s, and he was responsible for most of their song’s bass tones; they became particularly associated with ballads and a cappella songs which became their forte, and they would slowly rise to the top of the music industry. They found international success and had numerous record setting achievements. Their song “End of the Road” would break Elvis Presley’s record of song longevity in the Billboard Hot 100 top spot. They continued to break their own records and became the band that spent the longest time overall in the Billboard charts. They released over 10 studio albums with hits such as “Motownphilly”, “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”, “On Bended Knee”, and “I’ll Make Love to You”. They’ve won four Grammy Awards along with several other achievements. However, Michael was experiencing chronic back problems because of scoliosis and had several personal issues which made him decide to leave Boyz II Men in 2003.

Since then he’s appeared in several films, including “Mannsfield 12” in which he appears as Herold. Prior to this appearance, he already starred in a movie called “Hoodlum” which was released in 1997. He also made a guest appearance in the television show “Identity” and became part of the daily show “Jury Duty” in which he appears as a celebrity juror. Aside from these, he appeared in the pilot of talk show “A Pound of Paula” alongside Paula Poundstone, but the show was not picked up.

In 2011, it was anticipated that Michael would return to Boyz II Men for their 20-year anniversary album featuring all new material. However, negotiations between him and the group broke down and his return was discontinued. This was confirmed by the Boyz II Men website and later the remaining members would continue on with their usual performances. They recently released the album “Collide” in 2014.

For his personal life, there is no public information on any relationships Michael may have had or has. It is known that McCary’s step-brother is singer Will Downing.
