Oona Chaplin Wiki Biography
Born Oona Castilla Chaplin on the 4th June 1986, in Madrid, Spain, she is an actress probably best known to the world as Talisa Maegyr in the TV series “Game of Thrones”, and as Zilpha Geary in the TV series “Taboo”, among other differing roles she has secured so far in her career.
Have you ever wondered how rich Oona Chaplin is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Chaplin’s net worth is as high as $7 million, an amount earned through her successful career, active since 2007.
The granddaughter of one of the most iconic comic actors, Charlie Chaplin, Oona is the daughter of actress Geraldine Chaplin and cinematographer Patricio Castilla – she got her name from Charlie’s fourth wife, Oona O’Neil. Oona is of mixed ancestry; her father is Chilean, while her mother is Anglo-American and her grandmother was a Mapuche Indian. She has an older-half brother, who is a product of her mother’s relationship with film director Carlos Saura.
During her childhood, Oona lived in Great Britain, Cuba and Switzerland, but spent the majority of her childhood years in Spain. From an early age, she became drawn to the performing arts, and attended ballet, flamenco and salsa dance lessons.
At the age of 15, Oona enrolled at Gordonstoun School, located in Scotland after receiving a scholarship for drama studies. While in school, Oona featured in a number of school plays, including “Rome and Juliet”, and she also did impressions of her grandfather in an adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, played at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
She then became a part of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, obtaining her degree in 2007, and soon afterwards got her first role, as Kate in the TV series “MI-5” in 2007. She then appeared next to her mother in the comedy-drama film “Inconceivable” in 2008, then appeared again with her mother, this time in the horror thriller film “Imago Mortis”. She continued with a couple of minor roles when in 2011 she was chosen for the part of Marnie Madden in the TV series “The Hour”, while also starring in the comedy film “¿Para qué sirve un oso?”, again with her Mother. The following year she was chosen for the role of Talisa Maegyr in the TV fantasy-drama series “Game of Thrones” (2012-2013), which added a considerable amount to her net worth, while also launching her to stardom, as since then Oona’s name became rather popular with a number of producers and casting directors. In 2014, Oona had a supporting role in the film “Aloft”, next to Jennifer Connelly and Cillian Murphy, while she also starred in the Spanish horror-thriller “Purgatorio”, and played Kitty Trevelyan in the TV mini-series “The Crimson Field”, all of which increased her net worth.
The following year, Oona had one of the lead roles in the romantic drama film “The Longest Ride”, while in 2017 she was chosen for one of her most prominent roles, Zilpha Geary in the TV thriller-drama series “Taboo”, starring Tom Hardy, David Hayman and Jonathan Pryce, further increasing her net worth. More recently, Oona starred in another film with her mother, this time the comedy “Anchor and Hope” (2017), and was most recently selected for the part of Varang in the sequel to the 2009 fantasy adventure film “Avatar”, directed by James Cameron. The film is scheduled for release in late 2020.
When it comes to her personal life, Oona tends to keep her most intimate details hidden from the public eyes, however, she is rumoured to be dating “Game of Thrones” co-star Richard Madden.

Oona Chaplin Quotes
- I’m part Cuban, so anything with a good beat like Rumberos de Cuba gets me going.
- As I don’t know what life would be like without my Chaplin connections, I work with them. I’m just really happy it’s a family I can be proud of; it’s not as if I’m related to some Z-list celebrity.
- I love boxing. I box in a local boxing gym in London. I usually spar. But I’ve done two fights and I lost both of them admirably. I didn’t realize how much it would hurt for them to actually hit me.
- I loved being on stage, but I told myself that if I didn’t get into RADA, I wouldn’t pursue an acting career. I did get in, though, and that was that.
- My flat in Ladbroke Grove, west London, is in the best building in the world. It’s like a commune – everyone gets on – and on Friday evenings I often cook us all dinner.
- My mother doesn’t have much of a social life with other A-list people. Which in a way I’m very grateful for, because if I do make something of my career I will be able to say it wasn’t because I was a Chaplin.
- People think that I can just walk into a room and get a job, but of the 200 interviews and auditions I go through a year, I may get three yeses. I just have to use my sense of humour to get me through.
- Watching yourself on screen is always a little weird, but I didn’t cringe when I saw myself on ‘The Hour.’ It actually exceeded my expectations; every shot looks like a vintage postcard and even my most brutally honest friends have said they think it’s good.
- When people say ‘Charlie Chaplin’ I still think now of the guy in the moustache and bowler hat and funny walk – I don’t think of an old man who was my grandfather.
- I have to go through auditions, and my surname has got me into rooms, but I’ll never know if it gets me any jobs. There’s a lot of sexism and objectification, and a lot of people put you down.
- My grandmother died in 1991 and I was born in ’86. We only met once, but I didn’t speak English and she didn’t speak Spanish – so we had a communication problem.
- I don’t buy things now, I buy plane tickets. The only thing I want is to make enough money to be able to travel with my children.
- I’m a big fan of David Attenborough, who I think is the most adventurous of the nature program presenters.
