Gemma Ward Wiki Biography
Born Gemma Louise Ward on the 3rd November 1987 in Perth, Western Australia, she is a model and actress, perhaps best known to the world for becoming the youngest model to feature on the cover of the American edition of Vogue, among many other accomplishments. She is currently signed to IMG Models.
Have you ever wondered how rich Gemma Ward is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Ward’s net worth is as high as $6 million, an amount earned through her successful career, active since the early 2000s.
One of four children born to Gary and Claire Ward, she went to Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Shenton College. The start to her modeling career was quite accidental, ‘discovered’ in 2002 while going with her friends to the Australian modeling audition Search for a Supermodel, spotted by a talent agent from Vivien’s Model Agency, and her potential was later showcased to David Cunningham of IMG Models, who immediately saw raw talent in Gemma.
She made her catwalk debut in May 2003 at the Australian Fashion Week, and in less than a year, Gemma was presenting her talents to Prada designer Miuccia Prada in Italy. At 16, she became the youngest model on the cover of American Vogue; photographed by Steven Meisel next to Daria Werbowy, Gisele Bundchen, Natalia Vodianova, Isabeli Fontana, Liya Kebede, Karolina Kurkova, Karen Elson and Hana Soukupova, she was a part of the “Models of the Moment” campaign. Gradually Emma’s career progressed, and in 2005 she appeared on 20 New York catwalks for such designers as Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang and Calvin Klein, which significantly increased her net worth, since according to reports she earned around $20,000 per show. The following year she earned over $1 million for taking part in Calvin Klein’s perfume campaign Obsession Night, and at the age of 18, Gemma was the first model ever to grace the cover of Teen Vogue magazine, and continued on the catwalk until 2008, when she took a break from modeling that lasted until 2013.
She returned to the runway in September 2014, wearing the Spring/Summer Prada collection during the Milan Fashion Week. Then in 2016 she campaigned for Givenchy, and walked for Calvin Klein menswear at Autumn/Winter Milan Fashion Week, further increasing her net worth. In recent years, she has been featured on the July cover of Elle Australia and campaigned for David Wee in a Fall/Winter collection.
Gemma is also an actress; back in 2001 she made her acting debut as Heidi in the film “Pink Pyjamas”, but after her modeling career took off, she set acting aside. She returned to the screen in 2008 with the role of Jackie Masters in the romantic drama film “The Black Balloon”, starring Rhys Wakefield, Luke Ford and Toni Collette, and the same year starred in the horror thriller film “The Strangers”, next to Scott Speedman, and Liv Tyler, which increased her net worth to a large degree. Two years later, she had a minor role in the highly-acclaimed fantasy action-adventure film “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, while in 2013 appeared in the Academy Award-winning romantic drama film “The Great Gatsby”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton, which also contributed to her net worth.
When it comes to her personal life, Gemma has been in a relationship with David Letts since 2013; the couple has two children together. Previously, she was in a relationship with now deceased actor Heath Ledger from 2007 until his accidental death in 2008.
