Nicole “Nicci” Gilbert Wiki Biography
Nicole “Nicci” Gilbert, born on the 8th of July, 1970, is an American singer, actress, producer, and entrepreneur who became famous for being one of the founding members of the all-female singing group Brownstone.
So how much is Gilbert’s net worth? As of early 2017, based on authoritative sources, it is reported to be $10 million, acquired from her years as a singer, actress, producer, and from managing her own company during a career which began in the early 1990s.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Gilbert was exposed to music at a very early age. Her mother was a singer herself and became one of Gilbert’s earliest influences in music. She participated in various talent shows when she was in high school, and then in college she took up music and drama at Eastern Michigan University. During her college years, Gilbert’s love for performing became too strong, so after two years in college she decided to drop out, and moved to Los Angeles with a friend to try to break into the music industry.
At first, Gilbert’s attempt to become big in the music industry seems to be futile. She attended various auditions and talent shows but failed to achieve any success. She also worked various jobs on the side just to pay her bills, including working at Taco Bell. Finally, in 1993 her life changed when she met fellow artists Monica “Mimi” Doby and Charmayne “Maxee” Maxwell. The three met while attending the same auditions in Los Angeles, and eventually they clicked and decided to form their own group named Brownstone. One year later, the group was able to sign a deal with Michael Jackson’s recording label MJJ Music.
After one year signing the deal, Gilbert along with Doby and Maxwell released their first album “From the Bottom Up”. Although their first single “Pass the Lovin’” didn’t immediately gain traction, their second single “If You Love Me” became a megahit. The popularity of the song catapulted the three to stardom, and it even gained nomination in the Grammy Awards. The group was able to release a total of four albums, and are credited with producing such big hits like “Grapevyne”, “I Can’t Tell You Why”, and “5 Miles to Empty”. Gilbert’s career with the group helped her career in music tremendously, and also raised her net worth.
After the band broke up, Gilbert shifted into acting, and appeared in movies such “Woo” and “What Happens in Vegas”. She also appeared in television shows including “Living Single” and “Martin”. Later, she started her own artist development company N-Go Entertainment, and also ventured into producing film, theatre, and television productions. Her various businesses also helped largely in her wealth.
Today, Gilbert is still in the spotlight. She was most recently seen in the reality television show “R&B Divas”.
In terms of her personal life, Gilbert married Leonard M. Daniels in 2010, and together they have a daughter named Brandy.
