According to sources, it is estimated that the total of James Purefoy’s net worth, as of late 2017, revolves around the sum of $6 million, acquired through his professional acting career which is currently spanning 30 years, being active since 1987.
James was born to Shirley and Anthony Chetwynd Purefoy. At the age of 16, he abandoned Sherborne School and began working on a pig farm, but later landed a job at Yeovil District Hospital. At the age of 18, he attended Brooklands College before enrolling at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Among some of his first stage roles was the leading role in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”, and in 1988, Purefoy became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and subsequently appeared in its productions such as “Macbeth”, “King Lear”, “The Tempest”, as well as “The Man Who Came to Dinner”. All these engagements helped James Purefoy to establish himself as a prominent actor and provided the basis for his net worth.
Purefoy’s on-camera debut occurred in 1990 when he was cast for the leading role of Mike Baker in TV drama series “Coasting”. This was followed with several other supporting roles in TV movies and series, such as “Rides”, “Calling the Shots” and “Tears Before Bedtime”. Setting his career on a rising path, by the end of the 1990s, Purefoy began appearing in more demanding and more memorable roles, including a bisexual guy in “Bedrooms and Hallways” (1998), an alcoholic laborer in the 1999 comedy drama “Mansfield Park”, as well as a womanizer and a gambler in “Woman Talking Dirty” (1999). He had also portrayed some major roles in TV series “The Prince and the Pauper”, and “The Tenant of Wildfire Hall”. James Purefoy Quotes
- The first job I ever did was Equus on stage, as the boy, and I was 17, and we opened the show with me naked in the spotlight being examined by doctors. That was my entrance to the stage, so anything after that was easy. Also, for some reason, nudity was never shameful, it was never brought up in my household when I was a kid, there was no ‘dirty, dirty sex’. It’s not like we all ran around naked in some horrid 70s nightmare, it just was never an issue, and because it was never an issue I’ve never been embarrassed, I guess.
- “Ah, nudity. That’s quite a recent thing, the nudity. It’s come in the early autumn of my career.” (Jan. 2006)
- If you find yourself always playing the villain, or if you find yourself being typecast into a corner where you’re not happy then that’s probably rather miserable, but if I have been typecast I am reasonably happy about it as what Ive been typecast as ain’t so bad”
- The age of chivalry isn’t dead, is it? It doesn’t even have to be a man or a woman that you could be chivalrous to. If somebody’s in trouble you give them a hand.
- In the July 4, 2001 Newswatch, Wild West End column: “There was one woman whom I was absolutely infatuated with, but she had no interest in me. I was very young at the time and thought the way to prove my love was to write a book for her. It ran for pages and pages and I had it bound in leather to give to her. But it still didn’t have the desired effect.”
