Larry Kramer, born on the 25th of June 1935, is an American author and playwright, who became famous for his works including “Women in Love”, “Faggots”, and “The Normal Heart”. He also became known for his active participation in fighting for the rights of the LGBT community.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Kramer came from a small Jewish family. His work for “The Destiny of Me” even earned him the right to become a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and won him two Obie awards. His works in the stage production also helped in his wealth.

In 1988, Kramer was diagnosed with Hepatitis B leading him to need a liver, but additionally it was also discovered that he had HIV, making it hard for him to earn a place in the liver transplant list. His diagnosis with HIV and the hardships he faced with the disease highly affected the themes in his works.

Kramer’s HIV diagnosis helped inspire the novel “Faggot”, and the books “Reports from the Holocaust: The Story of an AIDS Activist”.
