Talib Kweli Wiki Biography
Talib Kweli Greene was born on the 3rd October 1975 in Brooklyn, New York City, USA. He is best known for being not only a rap musician, but also a songwriter and singer, who was the co-founder of the rap duo Black Star. He is also recognized as the founder of Javotti Media, an independent record label. His career has been active since 1996.
Have you ever wondered how rich is Talib Kweli, as of early 2016? According to sources, it is estimated that Talib’s overall net worth is over $4 million, with the main source of this amount being acquired through his career in the music industry. During his career as a rapper, he has released a number of singles and several albums, and has collaborated with numerous artists of the rap scene, such as Kanye West, Nelly, Akrobatik, Yalib and many others, which has also increased his net worth.
Talib Kweli was born to a father who works as a college administrator, and mother who works as an English teacher, and was raised in Brooklyn with his younger brother. As a teenager, he became interested in rap music and during high school he met rappers such as De La Soul and many others from the Native Tongues Posse collective. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, and after graduation he enrolled at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut. Later he went to study Experimental Theater at New York University.
Talib Kweli’s career beginnings trace back to 1996, when he appeared on the album “Doom”, by the rap group Mood, based in Cincinnati, and later met rap DJ Hi-Tek, with whom he founded the rap duo Reflection Eteranal, releasing two studio albums “Train Of Thought” (2000), and “Revolution Per Minute” (2008). He then returned to New York and met up with rapper Mos Def, with whom he shortly after created the rap duo Black Star. The duo has so far released only one album, entitled “Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star” (1998), but they are still performing live together, and in 2011 they released the single “Fix Up”. His net worth is certainly rising.
To speak of Talib’s solo career, his discography is quite imposing, as he has released 10 studio albums, and 15 mix tapes, all of which have added to his net worth. His first solo release came out in 2002, entitled “Quality”, and the second album was released two years later under the title “The Beautiful Struggle”, which reached 14th spot on the US Billboard top 200 chart. However, his best release came out three years later, under the title “Eardum”, entering charts at the No. 2 on the Billboard top 200, but on the US Rap albums chart it reached No.1, greatly increasing his net worth. Since then, his solo releases declined, and some of them didn’t even manage to chart, including “Fuck The Money” (2015), which is his last album.
Speaking about Talib Kweli’s personal life, he has been married to DJ Eque since 2009; the couple has two children. He was a member of The Five-Percent Nation. In free time, Talib is active in politics, and is an activist against police brutality.
