Hector “Macho” Camacho was born on 24 May 1962, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, as was a world champion boxer known for his flashy performances in the ring which earned him his nickname. He won world championships at three weights before finally retiring in 2010. “Macho” was killed in an apparent drug-related drive-by shooting in 2012.

Camacho began his rise to fame by initially competing in the Super Featherweight division. He then advanced to the Lightweight division, where he had some of his more notable fights with Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard, both of which he won. Macho Camacho then competed against Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya, and won a fight against Raul Jorge Munoz. Macho fought and beat the best boxers around during his strongest, avoiding no-one until he went on hiatus due to legal issues. However, Macho is the only boxer recognised to have won seven championships, in the super featherweight (WBC, 1983), lightweight (WBC, 1985), and junior welterweight (WBO, 1989 and 1991) divisions. In total, he had 88 fights for 79 wins.
Hector Macho Camacho’s troublesome attitude had not changed since his youth, and was perhaps the main reason as to why Camacho’s career went downhill. Macho Camacho’s legal issues started in 2005 when he was charged with an attempted burglary in an electronic goods store, and possession of illegal drugs. Camacho pleaded guilty to being under the influence of ecstasy during the burglary and even though he was initially given a seven year sentence, it was changed to a one year sentence and probation. In 2011, Camacho was mixed-up in a shooting when he was attacked and shot at three times. Camacho, however, did not file a report. Later that same year, Macho Camacho was charged with child abuse for attacking his teenage son. He was released from jail on a $5,000 bail and was awaiting trial at the time of his death.
In 2012 Camacho was yet again involved in a shooting accident, and the morning after the incident Camacho’s brain stem was pronounced dead.
