How much is the net worth of Floyd Landis? It has been reported by authoritative sources that the overall size of his wealth is as much as $1.5 million, as of the data presented in early 2017. Sport is the main source of his wealth.
To begin with, Landis was born in a Mennonite community in the heart of one of the largest Amish and Mennonite communities in the USA. The parents of Landis were actually against cycling, and Landis was forced in secret and often at night to take his bike for a workout.
He graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1994, and despite his parents objections, became a mountain biker, winning several races before becoming a professional road-racing cyclist in 1999; that year, he was 3rd in the Tour de l’Avenir. In 2002, he participated for the first time at the Tour de France, and was 61st while his team leader Lance Armstrong won the Tour, and he managed 24th in 2003 and 2004 Tours de France. When Landis still had no new contract proposal following the 2004 Tour, he went on looking for another team, and signed a contract with Phonak, then finished in 9th place in the 2005 Tour. In 2006, Landis won the French ProTour race Paris-Nice, and prior to the Tour de France 2006, rivals Ivan Basso and Jan Ullrich were suspended by their teams because of alleged doping. Subsequently, Landis was considered one of the main favourites for overall victory, after Paris-Nice he won two other competitions in the USA: the Tour of California and Tour of Georgia, and sure enough he was the winner of Tour de France. However, soon after that, his team Phonak confirmed that he had tested positive in a doping control for testosterone at the stage that finished in Morzine, and was subsequiently found guilty, so the champion’s title went to Óscar Pereiro. In 2009, he joined the OUCH-Maxxis team and took part in the Tour of California, and in the 2010 season Landis wanted to start for the Rock Racing team, but this team was denied a license by the Union Cycliste Internationale, so he signed to the Bahati Foundation team.
Almost four years after his Tour de France ‘victory’, in 2010 Landis, who financed his campaign against the Dopingsperre by public appeal among other things, admitted that he had used doping during most of his career, beginning doping in 2002 when he was racing for Team US Postal, and in addition he accused Lance Armstrong of having also taken advantage of EPO, blood doping. In 2010, it was announced that France had issued a national arrest warrant against Landis as he had not appeared for a hearing – the allegations were that Landis had illegally come to secret labs of a French anti-doping laboratory. In 2006, the computer system of the laboratory collapsed, after which the French anti-doping agency filed a complaint against Landis amongst others for hacking. At the beginning of 2011, Landis retired from professional cycling.
Finally, in the personal life of Floyd Landis, he was married to Amber from 2001 to 2009. Currently, he is single.
