Jason Newsted Wiki Biography
Jason Curtis Newsted, was born on 4th March 1963, in Battle Creek, Michigan USA, and is a rock musician and songwriter. Also known as Jasonic and Jason “Newkid”, he perhaps best known as the bass player for the band Metallica. Jason has been active in the entertainment industry since the early 80s.
So just how rich is Jason Newsted? Sources estimate that Jason’s net worth is over $40 million, his wealth having been accumulated largely from his career of more than 30 years in the music industry,
All his life Jason has been surrounded by music, as his mother was a piano teacher and one of his older brothers learnt to play the trumpet. Also, he was a passionate listener to the music records collected by his brothers. At nine years old he started playing the guitar, but after he reached the age of 14 he concentrated on playing bass guitar. This change was influenced by Gene Simmons who was playing in the band “Kiss”. Newsted also lists other musicians, such as Geezer Butler, Lemmy Kilmister, Steve Harris and others, who have had a huge influence on his musical taste.
His career started while he was performing with Flotsam and Jetsam, a trash metal band. It’s worth mentioning that the major part of the lyrics of the album called “Doomsday for the Deceiver” were written by Jason Newsted. However, after the bassist for Metallica, Cliff Burton’s death in 1986, Jason was chosen to join the band, with which he performed for over 25 years until he left it in 2011 because of a disagreement; nevertheless he was the longest serving bass guitar player the band has had. The time spent with the famous heavy metal band earned Jason Newsted his fame, and a considerable amount of his net worth. In 2002 the musician joined other music projects, including playing with Ozzy Osbourne and groups such as Echobrain and Voivod.
In 2006 Newsted injured his shoulder while trying to catch a falling bass amp head. During his recovery period he was unable to play, but the artistic soul could not calm down. Therefore Jason Newsted decided to express himself in art. As he explained, he went “from making crazy and colorful music to making crazy and colorful paintings.” His original works were subsequently exhibited in San Francisco’s Michaela Art gallery in 2010. This second career has also had a positive effect on Jason’s net worth.
On a radio interview Newsted also revealed his successful investment in various projects while he was a Metallica member; Jason Newsted is not only a musician but also the owner of the Chophouse Records label and recording studio in California. In addition to that, he has his own music publishing company “Jasonic”, which is also an important source of his income.
Nowadays Jason Newsted is playing in the band called “Newsted”, in which he is both the lead singer and the bass player. Their debut album entitled “Heavy Metal Music”was released in August, 2013. The work with his own band is considered to be one of the major sources of the musician‘s net worth these days.
In his personal life, Jason Newsted was very briefly married to Judy in 1988! He has been married to Nicole Leigh Smith since 2012. Newsted is now also busy with philanthropic work. He wants to promote musical education for kids, so the musician is an official supporter of a non–profit organization called Little Kids Rock, whose mission is to provide an opportunity to every kid throughout the USA to play music. Newsted is an honorary board member of the organization.
