Laurence Fishburne Wiki Biography

Laurence Fishburne is also known as Laurence J. Fishburne III, Larry Fishburne, Fish, Lawrence Fishburne and as simple as Larry. Fishburne nowadays is considered to be one of the greatest film producers, actors, voice actors and film directors who has estimated net worth as high as $20 million. He appeared as Maron Bishop in “Assault on Precinct 13”, also as Dr. Larabee in “Akeelah and the Bee”, Iason “Furious” Styles in “Boyz n the Hood”, Captain Miller in “Event Horizon”, and as Piper in “Fled”.

Nowadays he is considered to be one of the richest show business personalities in the US.

Laurence John Fishburne III was born on July 30, 1961, in Augusta, Georgia, United States. He was raised in an ordinary family – his mother was a school teacher, while his father was a corrections officer working with young people. However, his parents divorced in his early childhood, and that’s when he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he spent the rest of his childhood. Fishburne made the first step into the building of his future net worth  at the age of 12, when he acted in the “Mod Squad”. Actually as a child he had many opportunities to get some experience in acting – he appeared in “Cornbread, Earl and Me”, the “One Life to Live” soap opera, and “Apocalypse Now”. In order to act in the last one, Lawrence had to lie about his age to appear older!

Of course, these small roles during his childhood couldn’t build up a great  net worth for Fishburne, but then he was ready to work hard and participate in many other projects. A big investment in Larry’s net worth occurred when he accepted the role as a narrator in the famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Later he made many other appearances. For example, Laurence had an opportunity to raise his net worth while filming in “What’s Love Got to Do with It” directed by Brian Gibson in 1993, where he appeared together with Angela Bassett , Khandi Alexander, Chi McBride and other celebrities.

For his great roles as an outstanding or supporting actor, Fishburne has been nominated numerous times for many different awards . Fishburne won his first award for filming  in 2006 – it was a Black Movie Award received for “Akeelah and the Bee” for his Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role. He has also been the winner of some theatrical awards; for example, thanks to playing in “Without Walls” in 2007 he received the NAACP Theatre Award as the Best Male Lead – Equity.

Today Laurence Fishburne’s net worth continues to grow fast. The famous actor lives in Hollywood together with his second wife Gina Torres and their child born in 2007. He was divorced from his first wife Hajna Fishburne  in 1990 after five years of living together with two children.

So now you know how rich Laurence Fishburne III is.

Laurence Fishburne Quotes

  • I don’t believe in acting teachers for me.
  • It’s funny, a lot of people think I take myself seriously because I come off so serious sometimes. But it’s not that I take myself seriously, I take what I do seriously. I came up around people who took acting seriously, who cared about acting, cared about the theater and, in the ’70s, made movies that said something that mattered. I came up with those people, and I was a kid. Their ethos and credo became mine.
  • I play characters. I don’t think I really have a persona per se. I don’t play the same guy every time. I show up, you don’t know what I’m gonna do. I like it that way. I’ve intentionally tried to do it that way. I think that’s what’s interesting.
  • [on why he didn’t read the complete play of “Othello” before acting in the film version in which more than half of the dialogue was cut:] “Why should I read all those words that I’m not going to get to say?”
  • I’ve played a lot of bad guys, ’cause that was the only work I could get. People saw my face and went ‘oooh’.
  • For the last six months people have been coming up to me and saying, ‘I loved you in Pulp Fiction, Mr. Jackson.'” [1996]
