Constance Marie Wiki Biography
Constance Marie Lopez was born on 9 September 1965, in East Los Angeles, California USA. She is an actress perhaps best known for her role as Angie Lopez in the show “George Lopez” as well as her role of Selena’s mother in the 1997 film “Selena”.
So just how rich is Constance Marie? Sources estimate that Marie has acquired a net worth over $5 million, as of early 2016. Her wealth has been earned during her successful career in the television and movie industry.
Marie started her career when she was just a teen in the Los Angeles underground break-dance scene in 1982. She was chosen to dance on David Bowie’s “Glass Spider Tour” in 1987. After the tour she was cast as a dancer in the movie “Salsa”, and soon she forged a successful acting career.
Marie’s first television appearances include the starring role as Penny Rivera in the film spin-off series “Dirty Dancing” lasting from 1988 to 1989, and the recurring role as Nikki Alvarez in the soap opera “Santa Barbara”, in 1989-90. The series helped raise the young actress’s profile and her net worth started to rise. In 1995 she starred in the New Line feature film “Mia Familia”, created by Gregory Nava, an independent drama about a Mexican-American family who migrated from Mexico to the USA, in which Marie played the role of Toni Sanchez. Her role in “Selena” two years later earned high praises from worldwide audiences. In this 1997 blockbuster, Marie played Marcella, the mother of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla. Being only a year older than her onscreen daughter played by Jennifer Lopez, Marie had to go through several hours of extensive make-up in order to look older and portray her character. The role earned her huge credit in the film industry and considerably added to her net worth.
Marie went on with her television work, and appeared as Gabriella Diaz in the series “Union Square”, airing from 1997 to 1998, receiving an Alma Award nomination for “Outstanding Female in a Comedy Series” for her portrayal. She then took the role of Toni Brigatti in the series “Early Edition”, airing from 1998 to 2000 and the role of Samantha in the 1998 sitcom “For Your Love”. She also made a number of television guest appearances, such as in the series “Spin City”, where she took the role of Gabby, Michael J. Fox’s antagonist love interest, as well as appearing as Inez Cortez in an episode of “Ally McBeal”. In 2000 Marie appeared in the Sundance Film Festival Feature “Dancing in September”, and the following year in “Tortilla Soup” in which she played the role of a single mother Yolanda, with the film receiving an Alma Award nomination for “Outstanding Motion Picture”.
The role which made Marie a small screen star was as Angie Lopez in the popular comedy series “George Lopez”, airing from 2002 to 2007. Marie spent seven years on the show, portraying the hard-working and devoted wife of the titular character, the stand-up comedian George Lopez. The Imagen Awards honored her with a “Best Actress in a TV series” award, and a nomination for “Best Actress in a Comedy Series”. Around the same time, Marie took the role in another series by Gregory Nava, with the same subject as his previous one where Marie played Toni Sanchez in the struggles of a Mexican-American family in Los Angeles. The new series lasted from 2002 to 2004 and here Marie played the character of Nina Gonzales.
Constance has recently made guest appearances in “According to Jim”, “CSI”, and “The Secret Life of an American Teenager”. Currently, she stars in the series “Switched at Birth” where she plays the role of Regina Vasquez, the biological mother to one of the girls, and legal mother to the other.
In her personal life, Marie was engaged to yoga instructor Kent Katich with whom she has a daughter Luna. The couple separated in 2015.
