Shemar Franklin Moore Wiki Biography

Shemar Franklin Moore was born on 20 April 1970, in Oakland, California USA, and is a popular  model and actor, best known to audiences as one of the stars in the TV series entitled “The Young and the Restless” in which he played Malcolm Winters for nine years until 2005. More recently his main source of income which has increased his net worth is playing Derek Morgan in the police procedural program entitled “Criminal Minds”, which is directed by Jeff Davis.

So just how rich is Shemar Moore, as of mid-2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Moore has been able to earn an estimated net worth as high as $16 million, during his career as a model and in the entertainment industry which began in the 1990s.

Shemar’s mother is a mathematics teacher, of part-Irish and French-Canadian  descent, and his father a business consultant with African-American ancestry.  Shemar moved to Bahrain and Denmark with his mother’s job, attending British schools in Bahrain before they returned to the US and settled in California, where he matriculated from Gunn High School in Palo Alto. He subsequently graduated from Santa Clara University, majoring in communications plus theater arts. Meantime he took-up modeling to pay all his expenses.

Shemar became active in show business in 1994, playing the role of Malcolm Winters in the long-running TV series “The Young and the Restless”, initially from 1994 until 2002, then reprising the role for a year from 2004, and in a reunion in 2014. Moore’s other major role began the following year in “Criminal Minds”, in which he eventually portrayed Derek Morgan for 11 seasons and 251 episodes through 2016, so both series contributed significantly to Moore’s net worth. Regular acting appearances on the screen further increased Shemar Moore’s net worth, as also did his participation as the host of the musical variety TV program called “Soul Train” from 1999 until 2003, syndicated and widely viewed.

Shemar Moore has made many other notable appearances; in 1998 he played the main role of Freddy Roland in the film “Butter”, together with such noted actors as Tony Todd, Ernie Hudson, Donnie Wahlberg and Nia Long. Other parts have included playing Terry White in “The Brothers” produced by Doug McHenry and Paddy Cullen, and his roles in such movies as “How to Marry a Billionaire”, “Motives”, “The Seat Filer”, “Mama Flora’s Family”, “Reversible Errors” and many others.  In total, Shemar has now appeared in over 30 titles on TV and the big screen

During his career Shemar’s potential net worth has increased even more thanks to the many awards he has received as an actor. The first time, he was nominated for the Daytime Emmy award as an Outstanding Young Actor in a Drama Series for “The Young and the Restless” but he didn’t win, however, in 1998 he won a Daytime Emmy award for exactly the same role, as well as six others for the same role. He also won the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his role in “Criminal Minds”. Additionally, he was nominated to be the Hottest Male Star in 1999 by Soap Opera Digest Awards, but didn’t win.

In his personal life, it is unconfirmed that Moore was married to Sana Latham in the ’90s. He has dated several starlets, included Halle Berry, Shawna Gordon and Phaedra Parkes, but is currently single. Shemar Moore has  purchased a house in Los Angeles in which he lives now. The net worth of Shemar has been high enough for him to provide large donations for research into the causes of multiple sclerosis, also supported by some of his friends from the cast of “Criminal Minds”. The reason for this was quite simply that his mother was diagnosed with disseminated sclerosis, so there is no wonder that Moore was going to help other people to fight the disease.

Shemar Franklin Moore Quotes

  • Hopefully when you see the movie, Maybe you don’t have the Orlando in your life, but you know that guy. He goes to church. He’s down the street. He’s one of the boys at the schoolyard. They exist.
  • What I love about ‘Criminal Minds’ is that Morgan is an ex-marine, ex-SWAT. To do those things you have to be a pretty badass dude. It’s a great incentive to stay in shape.
  • Orlando’s a part of me. The next guy’s a part of me. And the next guy’s a part of me. That’s all I’m trying to do, is tell cool stories that people can relate to.
  • I know that on my own sites, a picture of me with my mom or me with my dog does well, but when I put up a picture of myself shirtless, it does get a little crazy.
  • But I got drafted out of high school, and my mother wasn’t having it. She was like, you’re not about to think that you can just play ball, because if you get hurt, you’re going to be out of luck.
  • Whether it’s because of how somebody looks or because of what they’re wearing, you kind of assess a person in the first five minutes before they even speak.
  • Acting is therapeutic. I say I’m not shy, but… Acting is a very vulnerable experience, and you’ve got to be really confident to put yourself out there to be judged.
  • There are days when I feel confident, and I feel like, ‘OK, this outfit looks nice, I look good, I’m in shape.’ But I’m never going to walk out the house trying to be sexy, because that to me is cheesy and not attractive.
  • Because I could throw so hard when I got to college, they made me a pitcher. If I had to it all over again, I would have stuck to playing in the outfield. I loved running. I can catch everything in the outfield. I could throw people out from the fence.
  • Well, you can’t compete with a six foot five man in a wig.
  • And a lesson in this movie is dig beneath the surface. And so with my words, with my character, I purposely created a character that was away from how you’ve known me thus far in my career.
  • I hosted Soul train but I listen to everything.
  • I got rock in me.
  • Kim Kardashian is a major player coming off of a reality show, and nobody can turn a blind eye to what she’s accomplished, no matter how you see her.
  • I’m a drama guy.
  • It’s no accident that I’m not married and don’t have kids yet.
  • I admire Brad Pitt, honestly, just because of how he started and the obstacles he had to overcome to have the career that he’s had.
  • I could run, but I was throwing 93 mph coming out of high school.
  • Each morning needs to start with a good sweat. I’m either working out at home or on set, depending on my call time.
  • I got country music in me.
  • I don’t want to be an old dad.
  • I like to make money; I like to have nice things. But I love to act; I love to tell stories.
  • Denzel has been that leading man, but it took him a while to get to Training Day and Hurricane Carter.
  • I always speak so highly of my mom because she’s my partner in crime, and none of this would be possible without her love and support. Always have to make time for Mom.
  • But there are still good shows like 24, Boomtown and the Wire, the Shield.
  • Now that I’ve established myself in a drama, I’m plugging away, trying to get the attention of people who do the independent movies and the features.
  • When I do tie the knot, it will be one time, for good.
  • It’s no accident that I’m not married and don’t have kids yet. Because, despite what I’ve achieved in my career, I’m always wondering when somebody’s gonna tap me on the shoulder and say, ‘OK, the gig is up.’
  • You know, I don’t play the race card a lot. I’m half-black, half-white, and I’m proud of – my skin is brown. The world sees me as a black man, but my mother didn’t raise me as a black man. She didn’t raise me as a white guy.
  • But because I could throw so hard when I got to college they made me a pitcher.
  • Acting is therapeutic.
  • I’m not saying that I am all of my characters, but for me to bring a character to life, you’ve got to be able to find your own truth.
  • Television is in a different time because of reality television, so it’s not as exciting.
  • I still have shy qualities but nobody would believe that, just because we’re in the forefront and I can talk a lot of mess and I can run my mouth.

  • After eight years on ‘Young and the Restless’ and eight years on ‘Criminal Minds,’ I’m ready for that next phase of my career.
  • I say I’m not shy, but… Acting is a very vulnerable experience, and you’ve got to be really confident to put yourself out there to be judged.
  • Let a woman have her place, because as you provide foundation for her, she provides a foundation for you. And through that vulnerability comes strength.
  • That’s because I didn’t have to work with Madea. I only had to work with Madea once, and that was at the barbecue and I didn’t have to get close to her.
  • I wanna chase down Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Will Smith. I would love to start my film career.
  • No week is ever the same in my world! An average week in my life changes based on my shooting schedule, if I’m promoting a project, or anything else I have going on.
  • It was truly a lesson in don’t take something at face value. You know, so many of us do in life. Whether it’s because of how somebody looks or because of what they’re wearing or what have you, you kind of assess a person in the first five minutes before they even speak.
  • I’m raised by a single mom and didn’t have pops around for the most part of my life. And she, by any means necessary, gave me the best opportunities that she knew how to give me.
  • We never get enough of falling in love and believing in love.
  • Celebrities have more influence to be able to reach out to people, but people are becoming famous on Facebook and social media every day.
  • I’m not a machine. I get really motivated, then I fall off the wagon and want to eat Chinese food and sit on my couch and gain five or 10 pounds!
  • I’m very proud to be black, but I’m just as much black as I am white. But I want tell stories that everybody can relate to, so I don’t care who’s opposite me.
  • I want a partner in crime and a Bonnie to my Clyde. I’ve just been so focused on my career. Women don’t like being number two, so I’ve been glad to keep my distance so I could focus on me, get my life together and take care of my mom without disappointing the woman I love.
  • I do like working out. I feel my best when I work out, but you know, I’m human. I like to ride my bicycle and lift weights and hike. When I am diligently working out, ideally, I like to work out four days a week. If I can do that, I feel good about myself.
  • Although I have a lot of close female friends in my life, my number one is still my mom. Without her, I wouldn’t have the values that I have and see the world the way that I do today. She taught me how to appreciate and respect women. She taught me chivalry and how to love a woman and respect their feelings and emotions.
  • I could describe my career in two words: who knew. I was on the path to becoming a professional baseball player, but I got injured in college. When I decided to move out to L.A. to try acting, nobody was betting on me, not even my family. But it’s always been that way for me; nothing has come easy.
