According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Carrillo’s net worth is as high as $5 million, an amount earned through her successful career in the entertainment industry as an actress, which has been active since the late ‘70s.
Elpidia grew up with seven siblings on a farm in Santa Elena, Michoacán, which is a small mountain town. Her family was quite poor and was also a subject of violence; her father was murdered when she was only three years old. Her eldest brother took the family under his wing and the family farm, but after only three years, he was also killed. Young Elpidia four years later moved to Uruapan alongside her older sister who dropped out of school. The two started working at a Chinese restaurant, but luck had something else in store for Elpidia.
Soon she started a modeling career, as she was spotted by a local photographer, and when she was 12 years old, she was cast in Rafael Corkidi’s drama film “Pafnucio Santo”, although credited under a different name of Piya, due to a nude scene and her being underage at the time the film was released. She continued with her modeling and acting careers, and in 1977 was cast in the fantasy drama series “Deseos”, again directed by Rafael Corkidi. Now an accomplished actress, she started looking to broaden her collaboration. and in 1978 featured in the film “Pedro Paramo”, and the same year starred in Gabriel Retes’ historical drama “Nuevo mundo” (1978), for which she received positive critiques. She then enrolled at Bellas Arts School in Mexico City, but also continued her career, by appearing in numerous Mexican films, such as “Bandera Rota” (1979), “El Jugador de Ajedrez”, and La Virgen Robada” in 1981, so her net worth was well set.
Having acquired national popularity, Elpidia wanted to try herself in Hollywood. After a few auditions, she was cast as Maria in the crime-drama film “The Border” (1982), directed by Tony Richardson and starring Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel. After this impressive start, she was cast in the female lead role as Clara in the drama film “Beyond the Limit” (1983), next to Richard Gere, Michael Caine, and Bob Hoskins, and the same year featured in the war drama “Under Fire”, with Nick Nolte, Ed Harris, and Gene Hackman in the lead role. Three years later, she was the female lead in the action drama film “Salvador”, for which she earned Independent Spirit Award- nomination in the category Best Female Lead, and then the following year, she was chosen for the role of Anna, her most prominent role, in the sci-fi action film “Predator”, next to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Kevin Peter Hall; the film became an international hit with more than $60 million taken at the box office, which increased Elpidia’s net worth to a large degree.

She returned to Mexican production with another film “La hija del Puma” (1994), while in 1997, starred in Johnny Depp’s directorial debut “The Brave”.

She started the new millennium with the lead role in the drama “Bread and Roses” (2000), with Pilar Padilla, and Adrien Brody, for which she received ALMA Award in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while in 2005 she starred in “Nine Lives”, which earned her second ALMA Award, in the same category.
Three years later she had another successful appearance in the Hollywood film “Seven Pounds”, starring Will Smith and Rosario Dawson, and in 2009 had a minor role in the highly-praised drama “Mother and Child”. Elpidia then focused on other things and didn’t act again until 2014 when she was cast as Dalia in the comedy “Familia Gang”, and since then has featured in the films “Foreign Land” (2016), and “Relentless” (2017). Furthermore, she will appear in “The Green Ghost”, scheduled for release later this year, and “Chateau Vato a.k.a I Love Lupe“, which will be available in theaters next year.
