Adele Emeli Sandé Wiki Biography
Born as Adele Emily Sandé on the 10th March 1987 in Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear England, Emeli is a songwriter and recording artist, best known to the world for her singles “Read All About It”, and “Beneath Your Beautiful”, among many other achievements.
Have you ever wondered how rich Emeli Sandé is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Sandé’s net worth is as high as $8 million, an amount earned through her successful career as a musician, which has been active since 2008.
Emeli is of mixed ancestry; her father, Joel, is Zambian, while her mother is English. Emeli’s family moved to Alford, Aberdeenshire in Scotland when she was four, where she went to Alford Academy, and loved to study, stating that she hated to be sick and miss a day of school because she was hungry to learn. She also said that she was shy, nerdy and extremely well-behaved. She started writing songs when she was only 11 years old, which was used for her primary-school talent show. Song’s title was “Tomorrow Starts Again”.
When she was 15, she was invited by Choice FM to take part in their competition called “Rapology” in London, and was also called up by Richard Blackwood, to sing gospel in MTV’s Camden studios. Telstar offered Emeli a record deal before she turned 16, but she turned it down because she wanted to study medicine, actually an MBChB five-year course, at the University of Glasgow. She said that her education was important to her because she could find a job in medicine if she failed in the music industry.
Emeli’s parents took her to Alicia Key’s concert when she was 16 – since first hearing Alicia’s music, she wanted to become just like her. Also, in numerous interviews that Emeli has conducted after becoming successful musician, she talked about her earliest inspirations and has cited many people who inspired her – one of them is Frida Kahlo, and the proof of Frida’s importance for Emeli is a tattoo that she has on her forearm.
Although she studied medicine, she decided to leave her studies and focus fully on her musical career; she won the Trevor Nelson’s BBC Urban Music competition, however, the label decided not to offer her a professional contract. Nevertheless, she sent her demo tape to BBC Radio 1xtra which was heard by Naughty Boy, and the two started writing songs for such musicians as Cheryl Cole, Alesha Dixon and Professor Green, among others. She was soon signed by Virgin Records and EMI Records as well.
Her debut studio album came out in February 2012, entitled “Our Version of Events”, which topped the charts in the UK and Ireland, achieving multi-platinum status in Britain, and gold status in the USA, which increased Emeli’s net worth to a large degree.
Even before her album came out, she was already known in Britain, thanks to her successful collaborations with Chipmunk on his song “Diamond Rings” (2009), and with Professor Green on his song “Read All About” (2011).
Before she started working on her second album, Emeli made several notable public appearances, including at the White House in Washington, D.C. Her second album came out in 2016, under the title “Long Live the Angels”, however, the album was notably less popular than her debut release, but still achieving gold status in Britain, and landing at No. 2 on the UK charts, and reaching No. 41 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Thanks to her success in the music industry, Emeli has received numerous prestigious awards, including four Brit Awards, and one Bet Award. Furthermore, in 2017 she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Regarding her personal life, Emeli confirmed that she was engaged to her boyfriend, marine biologist,Adam Gouraguine, in January 2012 – the two were in a serious, 7-year relationship. They married in September 2012, in Montenegro, but after a year, Emeli and Adam divorced.
Emeli is also known for her philanthropic activities as she has performed numerous benefit concerts, including being present at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Event in 2013, and has started the program Community Clavinova, through which she helps many kids to received free Clavinovas. Also, she is a part of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaigns, among other endeavors.
