Harold was re-elected for the next four terms, staying in the position until 2007 when he lost the election to the Republican candidate Bob Corke.
Only days after leaving the post, Ford became the chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council in January 2007, while the following March he joined Merrill Lynch, the financial services firm, to be their new vice-chairman and senior policy adviser. The same month, Harold started working as a political contributor on the Fox News Channel, all these appointments benefiting his net worth.
