Mickey Thomas Wiki Biography
Born John Michael Thomas on the 3rd December 1949 in Cairo, Georgia USA, Mickey is a rock musician best known to the world as the lead singer of the rock bands Jefferson Starship, and Starship. His career started in 1965.
Have you ever wondered how rich Mickey Thomas is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Thomas’ net worth is as high as $8 million, an amount earned through his successful career in the music industry. Apart from being a band member, Mickey has released five solo albums, including the “As Long as You Love Me” (1976), ‘Over the Edge” (2004), and “Marauder” (2011), the sales of which have improved his wealth.
Mickey is one of three children born to Joe and Lorraine Thomas. Since his teen years Mickey has been interested in music, from when his childhood friends, Charles Connell, and Tommy Verran took him to a Beatles concert in 1965. The trio started a band together, but they fell apart when it was time to go to college, as they went to different colleges. Nevertheless, they regrouped in the early ‘70s, with the addition of Bud Thomas, and named themselves Jets.
That also didn’t last long, as Mickey joined the garage band Lords of London, and soon became a part of the blues rock band Elvin Bishop Group, firstly as backing vocalist, but then as the lead singer. One of his most successful recordings has been the hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love”, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard chart.
Tired of being in the shadows, Mickey decided to venture out on his own, and recorded the album “As Long as You Love Me” (1976), and three years later he was recruited by Craig Chaquico, guitarist as the new singer for Jefferson Starship,. They recorded four gold albums – “Freedom at Point Zero” (1979), “Modern Times” (1981), “Winds of Change” (1982), and “Nuclear Furniture” in 1984, after which the band broke out into two fractions, with Paul Kantner venturing out on his own, while Mickey and the rest of the members took the name Starship, and went on a successful career.
They released three albums – “Knee Deep in the Hoopia” (1985), which achieved platinum status in the US and Canada, then “No Protection” (1987), which achieved gold status, and “Love Among the Cannibals” (1989), after which they disbanded due to internal arguments between Donny Baldwin and Thomas. Then in 1992 Mickey reformed Starship, but without any original member and featuring Mickey Thomas. He toured extensively under that name singing hits from his stints in both Jefferson Starship and Starship. Also, he released the album “Loveless Fascination” in 2013, adding to his net worth.
Mickey has also collaborated with other musicians, including Sammy Hagar, on his album “Marching to Mars”, then also worked with Donna Summer, and recorded several songs as movie soundtracks, including for the films “Youngblood” (1986), “Sing” (1989), and “Dream a Little Dream” (1989), among others.
Regarding his personal life, Mickey has been married to Rachel Thomas since 2006; the couple has two children. Previously, he was married to Sara Thomas, with whom he has one child.
