In addition to film and TV appearances, Dougray has also had a successful career on stage, appearing in such productions as “To The Green Fields Beyond”, and “The Power and the Glory”, among others, which also increased his net worth.

Dougray is the son of Ema, who was a nurse, and her husband Alan Scott, who for a time worked as an actor, but later became a salesman. Dougray went to Auchmuty High School, and after matriculation enrolled at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff; in 1987 he earned the college’s Most Promising Drama Student Award. After graduation, he moved to London to pursue an acting career.

Before he made his screen debut, Dougray featured in a number of theater productions and puppet shows, then portrayed Don Pedro DeSoto in the TV series “Zorro” in 1990. He spent the early ‘90s building his name with roles in such TV series as “Stay Lucky” (1993), then had his first film roles as a Dragoon Captain in “Princess Caraboo” (1994), and as Major Rory Taylor in the TV series “Soldier, Soldier” in 1995. Little by little his name started becoming more known in Hollywood, which resulted in more notable roles, such as Terry Walsh in the comedy-drama “Twin Town” in 1997. The same year he featured in the historical drama “Behind the Lines”, starring Jonathan Pryce, James Wilby, and Johnny Lee Miller. In 2000 he had his breakthrough role as Sean Ambrose in the action film “Mission: Impossible II”, starring Tom Cruise and Thandie Newton, which only increased his net worth to a large degree. He continued successfully into the early 2000s with roles in such successful productions as “Enigma” (2001), “Ripley’s Game” (2002), and “To Kill a King” in 2003, all of which further increased his net worth. In 2005 he had starring roles in the romantic comedy “Things to Do Before You’re 30”, and another romantic comedy “The Truth About Love”, while in 2006 he starred in the action fantasy “Perfect Creature”. He assumed the title of one of the best-supporting actors in Hollywood, and as a result in 2007 he portrayed Mike Wittier in the crime action film “Hitman”, with Timothy Olyphant and Olga Kurylenko, and then in 2008 portrayed Dr. Jekyll and his alter ego Mr. Hyde in the thriller horror “Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde”, further increasing his wealth.

Dougray Scott Quotes

  • I read all the books on Fairfax in the British Library, did a lot of horse riding and studied military tactics of the time, finding out that he actually laid his rose garden out in strategic formations! But Method acting is a label I don’t really understand, because there’s a method to everybody’s acting. In terms of jumping into a character’s skin, I try to immerse myself in the role as much as possible to bring me closer to them. All I do is what’s required to achieve what I want to achieve.
  • (On his role in Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998)): “I had never worn a codpiece before and I don’t think I ever will again.”
  • (When asked to define his career): “I do what I feel is right at the time. Opportunities come along and I take them or I don’t. I feel happy about what I’m doing, and I work instinctively. I’m doing a Dylan Thomas film, “Map of Love,” with Mick Jagger producing again. It’s a wonderful script.”
