Vincent Crochon Wiki Biography
Born as Vincent Crochon on the 23rd November 1966, in Paris, France, Vincent Cassel is an actor, best known to the world as Jacques Mesrine, a French bank robber in the films “Mesrine Part 1: Killer Instinct” (2008), and “Mesrine Part 2: Public Enemy #1” (2008), and as Thomas Leroy in the film “Black Swan” (2010), among many other appearances.
Have you ever wondered how rich Vincent Cassel is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Cassel’s net worth is as high as $40 million, an amount earned through his successful career as an actor, which started in the late ‘80s.
Vincent is a son of Jean-Pierre Cassel, an actor, and Sabine Litique, a journalist. He has a brother, Mathias, who is a rapper, and a half-sister, Cécile Cassel, who is an actress and singer. When he was 15 years old he decided to become an actor, and two years later became a part of the circus school. He started his acting career in the late ‘80s by appearing in several French productions, but until 1995 he couldn’t score any major role. That changed when he was cast as Vinz in the crime-drama “La Haine”, directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, with whom he would collaborate several times throughout his later career. The role celebrated him as an actor, and also increased his net worth to a large degree.
He continued successfully with the role of Max Mayer in the romantic drama “The Apartment”, directed by Gilles Mimouni, and then in 1998 had his US debut in the historical drama “Elizabeth”, about Queen Elizabeth I, starring Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush and Cristopher Eccleston. He started off the new century with the lead role next to highly-praised Jean Reno in the mystery thriller “The Crimson Rivers” (2000), and then portrayed Jean-François in the historical adventure “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (2001). Then he moved away from his comfort zone playing villains, to voice Monsieur Hood in the animated comedy “Shrek”, followed by a starring role in the romantic drama “Read My Lips”, with Emmanuelle Devos, and Olivier Gourmet. The following year he starred with his now ex-wife Monica Bellucci in the mystery drama “Irreversible”, while in 2004 he was quite busy – first he portrayed Mike Blueberry in the western “Renegade”, and then François Toulour in the action crime film “Ocean’s Twelve”, starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, repeating the role in “Ocean’s Thirteen” released in 2007. That same year he learned to speak Russian for the needs of the film “Eastern Promises”, in which he portrayed the Russian Kirill, appearing next to Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen and Armin Mueller-Stahl.
Vincent has continued successfully with his career, appearing in mostly high-profile films, including the drama “Our Day Will Come” (2010), then David Cronenberg’s drama about the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung – “A Dangerous Method” (2011) – Danny Boyle’s mystery drama “Trance” (2013), and then the fantasy horror “Tale of Tales” (2015), directed by Matteo Garrone, all of which added a significant amount to his wealth.
In recent years, Vincent appeared in the action thriller “Jason Bourne” (2016), and the drama “It’s Only the End of the World” (2016). Currently Vincent has several films that are in post-production, such as “The Great Mystical Circus” and “Gaugin”, both scheduled for release late in 2017r.
Regarding his personal life, Vincent was married to Italian actress Monica Bellucci from 1999 to 2013; the couple has two children together.
Vincent excels in Capoeira, Brazilian martial arts, and has been living in Brazil since 2013. He is fluent in Portuguese, French, English, and has a conversational knowledge of the Russian language.

Vincent Crochon Quotes
- [on Irreversible (2002)] I knew we were taking part in something that wasn’t for everyone. It was really strong and powerful. When we went to show it at Cannes, I was scared and excited like a terrorist who had put a bomb in a church.
- I feel like the so-called bad guys are never totally bad. I guess it’s the closest thing I can do to reality: people act nice but nobody really is nice. We all have to balance that with something dark. How we balance it is what makes something interesting… My character in “La Haine,” he’s not bad, he’s unhappy and usually people are like that. Most of us are angry. [breaks off, then laughs] Maybe one day I’ll play Buddha.
- The minute your parents die, you stop fighting them. I realized the more I changed my face for films, the more I looked like him. I always liked to disguise myself because I was trying to run away from his image. But all that is not worth it. You can’t escape from what you are.
- [on playing villainous characters, notably Jacques Mesrine] People pretend to be nice, people pretend to be smooth, and polite and everything, but this is only an appearance because the way we’re built as human beings is only in paradox and contradictions. So I guess, you know, when I read so-called baddies, I think they’re more human than heroes most of the time.
- I love playing baddies.
- My father is best known for his light comedies, and I’m best known for crazy bad guys with short tempers.
- [on his wife, Monica Bellucci] Her best asset of actress – and woman too! – is not her beauty, but her intelligence. Her intelligence of people and of things. She is very perspicacious, very attentive with the others and has a great faculty to put them at ease. To work with her, I would say, to put besides any concept of couple, that it is as when I find Mathieu [Mathieu Kassovitz]: together, one goes more directly to essence. Plus, she is an incredible hard worker. She has a curiosity of cinema which is rare. She is moved by the directors, she is very listening . . . In general, I recognize it, I am interested more in the actors than in the actresses – is already well to recognize it! But her, she has something that few actresses have. A manner of exceeding reality, of making dream. I like to look at her playing…
- [asked what he would do if the world was to end in five minutes] Until today I would have said, “Get into a plane and jump out with a parachute”. Now that I’ve done it, I would say, “make love for the last time hoping that it is my wife who is at my side.”
- I’m a little angry in life.
- [on press interest in his marriage with Monica Bellucci] Oh, well you know, all European media is not the same. I’m sure that like in England, they can be much more bothering than in France, for example. In Paris, it’s okay. We have very separate lives when we’re working, working wise. I think that it’s fine.
- [on Irreversible (2002)] Yeah, I think that there is something saying, I say the line, that revenge is a human right. I don’t think that it’s a human right, but it’s a normal reaction.
- I think I’m actually more vulnerable than people imagine.
- The day after I had my licence to drive I made Paris/Nice at 230 km/hour.
