According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Hopkins’ net worth is as high as $3 million, an amount earned through her acting career, but in addition to working on television, Hopkins was also a singer, which was the basis of her wealth.

Telma Hopkins grew up in Highland Park, Michigan and started as a background singer in Detroit, Michigan, where she worked with such musicians as The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, and Isaac Hayes, among others. Tony Orlando recruited Hopkins in 1971, and she became a new member of the vocal group called Dawn, releasing 16 top-40 singles, three of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. They announced their retirement in 1977, after which Telma decided to focus on her acting career.

In 1979, she debuted in an episode of the Golden Globe Award-nominated series “Roots: The Next Generations”, and then in three episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated “A New Kind of Family” (1979). From 1983 to 1987, Telma appeared in 68 episodes of a Golden Globe-nominated “Gimme a Break!”, while concurrently in 1984, she had a role in “Trancers” with Tim Thomerson, Helen Hunt, and Michael Stefani. By the end of the ‘80s, Hopkins had parts in the horror called “Pulse Pounders” (1988) and in 93 episodes of a Primetime Emmy-nominated series “Family Matters” (1989-1997), all of which contributed steadily to Telma’s growing net worth..

In 1991 and 1992, Hopkins played in “Trancers II” and “Trancers III”, before appearing in 31 episodes of “Getting By”, from 1993 to 1994. She ended the ‘90s with a role in the comedy called “The Wood” (1999) starring Elayn J. Taylor, Omar Epps, and Richard T. Jones. From 2002 to 2006, Telma appeared in 91 episodes of “Half & Half”, while in 2008, she had a part in “The Love Guru” alongside Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, and Romany Malco. In 2010, Hopkins began working on “Are We There Yet?” and played in 29 episodes until 2012, followed in 2014 with a part in ten episodes of “Partners”.
