Kathy Ann Najimy Wiki Biography
Kathy Ann Najimy was born on the 6th February 1957, in San Diego, California USA, and is a film, television and voice actress, and comedienne, perhaps best known for her role as one of the three Sanderson sisters in the Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” (1993).
Have you ever wondered how rich Kathy Najimy is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Najimy’s net worth is as high as $8 million, earned through her successful career in acting and comedy, which began in 1991.
Kathy Najimy was born to Lebanese American parents, Samia (nee Massery) and Fred Najimy. Her family was Roman Catholic, and she was born in the spirit of that religion. She matriculated from Crawford High School, but devoted herself to other pursuits before becoming an actress on and off-Broadway in the mid-1980s. She emerged as a comedy actress in the early 1990s, and after several small movie parts, Kathy secured a breakthrough role in the comedy film “Sister Act” (1992), playing Sister Mary Patrick alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, and Harvey Keitel. The film was a huge commercial and critical success, and spawned the sequel “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” (1993) in which she also starred. That same year saw Kathy in what would prove to be an iconic role, when she joined the cast of the comedy horror movie “Hocus Pocus” as Mary Sanderson, one of the three sister witches. Bette Middler and Sarah Jessica Parker played the other two sisters, and while the movie failed critically and commercially, it became a beloved cult classic in the following years.
While she continued to appear in movies during the rest of the ‘90s, Kathy also branched out into television and voice acting. She starred as Olive Massery in the sitcom “Veronica’s Closet” from 1997 to 2000, and voiced Peggy Hill in the animated sitcom “King of the Hill” (1997-2010) for thirteen years, which increased her net worth significantly. She guest-starred in a plethora of popular TV shows, starting with Disney’s “That’s So Raven” (2006), and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” (2007). She also had the recurring role as Doctor Mildred Finch on CBS’s hit crime procedural show “Numb3rs” (2006-2007).
Her most recent television credits include the short-lived police procedural “Unforgettable” (2015-2016) and the award-winning political satire series “Veep” (2014-present) starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Kathy also had a successful return to the big screen in the early 2000s, appearing in two commercially successful movies, the romantic comedy “The Wedding Planner” (2001) with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey, and an ensemble comedy film, “Rat Race” (2001), where her co-star was once again Whoopi Goldberg. She was the voice of Mary in Pixar’s animated feature “WALL-E” (2008), and she played the Evil Queen from Snow White in Disney’s television fantasy film “Descendants” (2015). She has two releases scheduled for 2017, both in comedy genre: “A Change of Heart” and “Dating My Mother”.
Besides her acting work, Kathy has a long history of competing on various game shows in order to raise money for charity. Some of her appearances include the celebrity version of “Weakest Link” (2001), the proceedings of which she donated to Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan, and the tournament show “Celebrity Poker Showdown” (2004-2005), from which her winnings went to the charity which fights violence against women.
Regarding her personal life, Kathy has been married to Dan Finnerty, also an actor, since 1995, and with him she has a daughter, named Samia. Najimy is very outspoken about her political beliefs, having been a liberal Democrat and an advocate for the LGBT community and feminism since her youth. She is also a vegetarian, and she frequently speaks against weight shaming and body-image issues in the entertainment industry.
