Stephen Percy Harris Wiki Biography
Stephen Percy Harris was born on the 12th March 1956, in Leytonstone, Essex, England, UK. He is a musician – singer, songwriter, and bassist, perhaps best known for being the founder of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, and he is considered to be one of the greatest heavy metal bassists. He is also recognized as a producer of some band albums. Besides that, he started a solo career with the debut album “British Lion”, released in 2012. His career has been active since 1972.
Have you ever wondered how rich Steve Harris is, as of mid-2016? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of Steve’s net worth is equal to $30 million, which has been accumulated through his more than successful involvement in the music scene.
Steve Harris was raised with three sisters in the East End of London by his father, who worked as a truck driver, and his mother, who worked various part-time jobs. During his teens he played football, and was even asked to play for West Ham United, as he was spotted by Wally St. Pier. However, due to his interests in rock music, he made the decision to play drums, and later he transferred to the bass guitar.
Before Steve founded Iron Maiden, he played in several bands, including Gypsy`s Kiss, and Smiler, however, he left the second band, as the other members though his songs weren’t good enough for them.
On Christmas day of 1975 the band under the name Iron Maiden was created by Steve Harris, and vocalist Paul Day, guitarists Dave Sullivan and Terry Rance, and drummer Ron Matthews. However, the line up changed several times, and current members of the band are Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith, Janick Gers and Nicko McBrain.
The band`s first album came out in 1980, entitled “Iron Maiden”, and ever since then they have released 16 studio albums, all of which have added substantial amounts to Steve`s net worth. Five albums topped the UK charts, including “Number Of The Beast” (1982), “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” (1988), “Fear of the Dark” (1992), “The Final Frontier” (2010), and their latest studio release “The Book Of Souls” (2015).
Since 1982 and the release of “Number of the Beast”, every album reached the top 10 of the UK charts, and achieved at least gold status, except the 1998 release “Virtual XI”. So far, the band has sold more than 90 million album copies worldwide, which represents the main source of Steve`s net worth.
When it comes to his personal life, Steve Harris is the father of six children. He was married to Lorraine from 1983-93, with whom he has four children, of which the eldest daughter Lauren is a singer, son George plays the guitar, and Kerry works as a producer of his band. Currently, he is in a relationship with Emma, and they have two children. In free time, Steve enjoys playing and watching football. His current residence is in Los Angeles, California.

Stephen Percy Harris Quotes
- We believed in what we were doing, long before we were called new wave of metal, or whatever. It was a shame for the other bands, though. I was quite surprised at how many didn’t make it, actually, looking back. There were certain bands that we actually thought should have done more, but didn’t. Like Angel Witch, for one. They did and album later on which I thought was really good, you know, but they disappeared after that. Or Wytchfynder, who I thought were really good, too. And Diamond Head, who at one stage looked like they were going to be the next Led Zeppelin. – Commenting on other metal bands earlier on their career.
- Everyone said afterwards that it was a European-sounding album. I’m not so sure about that? What’s a European-sounding album? To me, it’s just a Maiden-sounding album. It is whatever it is. And I thought, ‘Well, if you don’t like it, bollocks, I don’t care! There’s no other way of looking at it, really. – Commenting on the reception of the release of their 1988 release Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
