Cung Le Wiki Biography
Cung Le was born on the 25th May 1972 in (then) Saigon, South Vietnam, and is a retired mixed martial artist and Sanshou kickboxer, now actor, producer and director, but best known to the world for being the International Kickboxing Federation Light Heavyweight World Champion in Sanshou, and also Strikeforce Mddlewight Champion.
Have you ever wondered how rich Cung Le is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Le’s net worth is as high as $4 million, an amount earned through his successful careers.
When Cung was three years old, he and his mother fled Vietnam via helicopter under gunfire, while his father was caught and made prisoner. The two spent several months as refugees in a Philippines camp, before they settled in San Jose, California. Unfortunately, Cung’s troubles continued; he was bullied and discriminated against at school, but he found solace in martial arts. Also, he was enrolled in Tae Kwon Do classes by his mother once he turned ten years.
As he got older, Cung turned to wrestling, and in his junior year of high school received All-American honors. After matriculation, he enrolled at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, where he continued to wrestle and won the California Junior College State Championship in the 158 lb weight class in 1990, while also receiving junior college All-American honors. When he was 19 years old, Cung Le started taking lessons in Sanshou kickboxing, and in his subsequent professional kickboxing career, compiled a record of 17 wins without a defeat. He won the Shidokan Team US Championship in 1998, then ISKA Light-Cruiserweight Sanshou Championship the same year, and ISKA US Light Heavyweight Sanshou Championship the following year. In 2000 he became the ISKA North American Light Heavyweight Champions, while in 2001 he was crowned IKF World Light- Heavyweight Sanshou Champion. His net worth was rising steadily.
His MMA career wasn’t as successful as his career in Sanshou kickboxing, however, he had nine wins and recorded only three loses. He became the Strikeforce Middleweight Champion in 2008, defeating Frank Shamrock, which increased his net worth. He retired from MMA in 2015, mostly due to lack of desire to fight in UFC.
During his fighting career, Cung Le also tried himself as an actor, and made his debut in 1997 as Victor in the film “Sleight of Hand”. In the mid- 2000s he returned to acting with the role of the Assassin in the film “Dark Assassin” (2005), and then two years later featured in the film “Blizhniy Boy: The Ultimate Fighter”. In 2009 he had the role of Manh in the horror mystery “Pandorum”, starring Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster and Cam Gigandet, and then in 2010 starred in the live-action “Tekken” film, based on the video game, and starring also Jon Foo, Kelly Overton and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. In 2012 he appeared in the action film “The Man with the Iron Fists”, starring Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu, only to appear in 2013 in the Academy Award- nominated biopic about Ip Man, entitled “The Grandmaster”, starring Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, Ziyi Zhang and Jin Zhang, which only increased his net worth to a large degree.
Most recently, Cung Le will appear in the films “Savage Dog”, for release late in 2017, and “Infected”, which has a release date set for the next year.
Regarding his personal life, Cung Le has been married with Suzanne since 2009; the couple has one child together. He also has one marriage behind him, however, the name of his ex-wife is unknown, although they have two sons.
