Gary Francis Caine Cherone Wiki Biography
Gary Francis Caine Cherone was born on 26 July 1961, in Malden, Massachusetts USA, and is a songwriter and singer, best known for being the lead vocalist of the rock group Extreme. He was also the temporary lead vocalist of Van Halen for their 11th album “Van Halen III”. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Gary Cherone? As of early-2017, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $5 million, mostly earned through a successful career in music. He has released solo recordings, and reunited with Extreme in 2007. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Gary attended Maiden High School and dreamed of pursuing a basketball career until it was derailed by a serious knee injury. He then turned his attention to singing in local bands, heavily influenced by rock bands such as Aerosmith and Queen. In 1979, he formed the rock band called Adrenalin along with Paul Geary, and they performed locally. Two years later, they changed their name to The Dream, releasing a six-song vinyl EP, and a couple of years later, they appeared in a music video on the MTV show “Basement Tapes” – The Dream would win the contest.
In 1985, Cherone would meet Nuno Bettencourt and Pat Badger; they would soon become collaborators and form the new band Extreme. In the late 1980s, the group began attracting a huge amount of popularity, and it led them to sign with A&M Records – their net worth increased after they released their self-titled debut album in 1989. The following year, they released “Extreme II: Pornograffiti” which was critically acclaimed, and featured a mixture of genres, and songs written by Cherone became widely popular. Despite this exposure, it wasn’t until the release of their ballad “More Than Words” that their popularity propelled to mainstream. The song hit the top spot of the Billboard 100, and the album would soon be certified quadruple platinum.
In 1992, Gary performed with the surviving members of Queen at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, and later in the year, Extreme released “III Sides To Every Story”. Afterwards, rock took a backstage to the newly rising grunge genre, so in 1995, Extreme released “Waiting for the Punchline”, but it only had moderate success. They disbanded soon afterwards.
Gary then joined Van Halen as their third vocalist, and would help them work on a new studio album. They released “Van Halen III” in 1998, and it would debut at the fourth spot of the Billboard 200 album chart, featuring diverse songs, and eventually being certified gold. They produced one number one Billboard Mainstream Rock hit entitled “Without You”. Despite the success, the band considered it below expectations, as it was the first album in the band’s career that didn’t reach double platinum status. The tour was still well received as they travelled to areas outside of North America. They were working on another album called “Love Again” but issues with Warner Bros. led Cherone to leave Van Halen, although remaining on good terms with them.
He returned to Boston and formed Tribe of Judah. In 2003, Gary performed “More Than Words” during a memorial service to victims of The Station Nightclub Fire. Two years later he released a sampler entitled “Need I Say More”. He has also reunited with Extreme on several occasions, and eventually they planned a world tour and released another album entitled “Saudades de Rock”. In 2016, they released the live album “Pornograffitti Live 25: Metal Meltdown” which featured their concert at the Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Casino.
For his personal life, Gary keeps any relationships very private. It is known that he has a brother Markus Cherone who is also a musician. They have performed together on several occasions.
