Gerardo Mejia Jr. Wiki Biography
Gerardo Mejia was born on 16 April 1965, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He is a singer, rapper, actor, recording industry executive, and pastor. He is best known for his music along his appearance which often includes a bandana, skintight jeans, and being shirtless. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Gerardo Mejia? As of early-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $6 million, mostly earned through success in his numerous endeavors. He refers to himself as the “Latin Tony Zuzio”, “Latin Elvis”, and the “Latin Frank Sinatra”. As he continues his work, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Mejia’s family moved to Glendale, California when he was around 12 years old. Gerardo started his career as an actor by making his first major appearance in the 1987 film “Can’t Buy Me Love” – the teen comedy film starred Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson. Mejia was then cast in the film “Colors” a year later, playing the character Bird; the film focused on the gang ridden neighborhoods of Los Angeles, and starred Robert Duvall and Sean Penn. The film showcased Gerardo’s dance skills though he did not sing in the film.
He would actually make his musical debut in 1991, when he released the hit single “Rico Suave”, which peaked at the 7th spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the 2nd spot of the Hot Rap Singles chart; the song was part of his debut album “Mo’ Ritmo” which reached number 36 on the Billboard 200 chart, and featured lines in both Spanish and English. His next songs, including “We Want the Funk” didn’t get as much popular support, so the popularity of “Rico Suave” made him a one-hit wonder. He has been sourced as such by VH1, MTV, and even Gerardo himself. Regardless, he released another album in 1992 entitled “Dos”, and two years later he made “Asi Es”, and the year after that he released “Derrumbe”. In 2001, he made the album “Gerardo: Fame, Sex y Dinero” which was released under Thump Records. His last album would be in 2004, entitled “180 degrees”.
Gerardo has since become an A&R executive at Interscope Records. He’s well known for bringing attention to Enrique Iglesias during the late 1990s, and persuading him to sign with Interscope Records. He also helped sign Bubba Sparxxx. Other endeavors he was a part of include the reality show entitled “Suave Says”, in which he appeared alongside his family.
In 2013, Gerardo was interviewed by Katie Couric in her show “Katie”, and discussed his newest focus as a Christian youth pastor. He is an ordained pastor of the Kansas City Praise Chapel.
For his personal life, Gerardo Mejia has been married to Kathy Eicher since 1985, and they have two daughters and a son, of whom Nadia Mejia placed in the Top 5 of Miss USA 2016 Pageant.
