Jackie Mason was born as Yacov Moshe Maza on the 9th June 1931 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin USA, and is best recognized for being one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time, who performed notably in the 1986 show “The World According To Me”, and in the special “Jackie Mason On Broadway” (1988). He is also known as an actor and voice actor. His career has been active since the mid- 1950s.
So, have you ever wondered how rich Jackie Mason is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that the total size of Mason’s net worth is over $9 million, accumulated through his successful involvement in the entertainment industry. Another source is coming from the sale of his books.
Jackie Mason was raised with five siblings in a strictly Orthodox Jewish family by his father, Eli, who was a rabbi, as well as his grandfather, and great-grandfather, who had imigrated to Sheboygan from Minsk, Ukraine during the 1920s. When he was five years old, the family relocated to the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City, where he received a yeshiva education, and spoke Yiddish with his family and friends. He attended the City College of New York, from which he graduated with a BA degree in 1953, majoring in English and Sociology. Right after college, he gained semikhah and was ordained a rabbi in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. However, when his father passed away in 1959, he resigned his job in order to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian.
Mason’s career actually began in the summer of 1955, when he started working as a stand-up comedian at the Fieldston Hotel in Swan Lake, New York; however, he was soon fired, as the audience didn’t understand his sense of humor. After that, he began performing at local night clubs, and in 1962 he made his debut TV appearance in “The Steve Allen Show”, which marked the beginning of an increase of his net worth. Other shows in which he appeared included “The Dean Martin Show” and “The Perry Como Show” among many others. During the 1960s, he also made guest-appearances in “The Ed Sullivan Show” on the CBS network, which increased immensely his popularity. While in an episode of the show, he gave Sullivan the finger on air, which took him over a decade to revive his career.
In 1969, Mason co-wrote the play “A Teaspoon Every Four Hours” with Mike Mortman, in which he made his Broadway theater debut in the role of Nat Weiss. His next success came with his starring in the 1979 film “The Jerk”, directed by Carl Reiner, which was followed by an appearance in the 1981 film “History Of The World, Part I”. In 1986, he returned to Broadway, appearing in his debut one-man theatrical show “The World According To Me”, which he performed more than 360 times, adding a considerable amount to his net worth. Thanks to the show, Mason won a number of awards, including Emmy, a Special Tony, an Ace, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a nomination for a Grammy Award. His next show entitled “Jackie Mason On Broadway” won an Ace Award and an Emmy Award as well. Simultaneously, he landed the role of Jack Hartounian in the film “Caddyshack II” (1988).
In the next decade, Mason created the two-act show “Brand New”, for which he once again won an Outer Critics Circle Award. In 1991, he was chosen to provide his voice to the character Rabbi Hyman Krustofski in the animated TV series “The Simpsons”, which lasted until 2016, increasing his net worth by a large margin, a role which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance. He also created such shows as “Politically Incorrect” (1994-1995), “Love Thy Neighbor” (1996–97), etc.
To speak further about his career, he appeared in “Prune Danish” (2002), which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event, “Jackie Mason: Freshly Squeezed” (2005), which also earned him a nomination for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance), and “The Ultimate Jew” (2008), among others. His net worth was certainly rising.
Beside that, Mason has also published several books, including “Jackie Mason’s America” (1983), “Jackie, Oy!: The Frank, Outrageously Funny Autobiography Of Jackie Mason” (1988), and “How To Talk Jewish” (1991) alongside Ira Berkow, all of which increased his wealth.Speaking about his personal life, Jackie Mason has been married to Jyll Rosenfeld, who worked as his manager, since 1991. He has a daughter with writer Ginger Reiter, Sheba Mason, who is also known as a comedian,.
