Cliff Curtis Wiki Biography
Clifford Vivian Devon “Cliff” Curtis is an actor born on 27th July 1968, in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, of Maori descent. His most notable roles so far have been in “The Dark Horse”(2014), “Whale Rider”(2002), “Blow”(2001) and “Once Were Warriors”(1994). Apart from his other TV series roles, he currently plays a lead character in the horror-drama series “Fear the Walking Dead”.
Have you ever wondered how rich Cliff Curtis is? According to sources it has been estimated that Cliff Curtis’s overall net worth is $3 million, accumulated through a television and film career he has been building since the early ‘90s. Since he is still an active member of the entertainment industry, his net worth continues to increase.
Cliff was one of the nine children in the family; as a child he studied a traditional Maori form of fighting called mau rakau. He attended the Western Heights High School in Rotorua. Since he often performed as a break-dancer and took part in numerous rock’n’roll dance competitions, he was encouraged by his friends to pursue acting as a profession, so he enrolled at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School, from which he graduated in 1991. Curtis started his career as an actor in amateur productions of musicals with theatre companies. However, his first film role was in the Oscar-nominated “The Piano”, and soon after in “Once Were Warriors”, one of the most successful films released in New Zealand. In 1993 he appeared in the melodrama “Desperate Remedies”. His net worth was established.
In 2002 he portrayed the role of the title character’s father in the international film hit “Whale Rider”. Along with producer Ainsley Gardiner, Cliff formed an independent film production company “Whenua Films” in 2004, whose goals were to support the growth of New Zealand’s filmmaking scene. Under this company’s banner the duo produced several films, notably “Two Cars, One Night”, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005, “Hawaiki” a year later, and “Boy” which became the highest grossing New Zealand film. Another praised appearance of his was in “The Dark Horse” (2014), a role for which he studied chess, and put on weight.
Apart from these roles in domestic films, Curtis has also had a successful international career, and appeared in films such as Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead”(1999), “Three Kings”(1999), “Blow”(2001) in which he starred with Johnny Depp, “Training Day”(2001), “Collateral Damage”(2002), “Live Free or Die Hard”(2007),“Sunshine”(2007), “Push”(2009), M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender”(2010), “Last Knights”(2015), “Risen”(2016) in which he portrayed Yeshua of Nazareth (Jesus Christ) and many others. He is currently appearing in “Fear the Walking Dead” as the male lead, an AMC TV series spin-off from “The Walking Dead” series.
When it comes to Cliff’s private life, there is not much information to be shared, as he keeps it absolutely away from the public; even his wife’s name is unknown – they married in 2009 and the couple has two children.

- (On Whale Rider) I’ve been waiting for this film for a long time. It’s fun to go off and put on a disguise and pretend to be someone else, but to be able to get back to myself and my culture, that was just more than really nice, y’know – it was vital.
