So just how rich is Nancy Kerrigan? Sources currently estimate that the overall amount of Nancy’s net worth is $8 million. Her professional skating career has been the most important source of her income. Moreover, after finishing her career she received various lucrative endorsements which have also added to her wealth.
Nancy Kerrigan was born to Brenda and Daniel Kerrigan, and was raised with her two brothers, attending Stoneham High School. Kerrigan began skating at six years of age, while her elder brothers took up ice hockey. At eight years old she began attending private skating lessons, and a year later she won her first medal. She became a well known figure skater at the national level as she was very promising, had a good perspective in jumps, although rather weak at the compulsory figures, but then in 1990 compulsory figures were excluded from figure skating championships. In 1991, she placed third in the Unites States of America Championship which led her to participate in the World Figure Skating Championship in 1991, where Nancy won the bronze medal. That year was very successful for the United States of America team as it took all three prizes, with Kristi Yamaguchi winning gold,, and Tonya Harding silver medals. The following year was even more successful for Kerrigan as she won second place in the national championship, and in the Albertville Olympic games she won bronze, and then became the silver medalist at the World Championship in 1992.
Nancy Kerrigan experienced a decline in her career in the 1993 season, however, she managed to comeback after this unsuccessful year, and an attack planned by rival Tonya Harding‘s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and co-conspirator Shawn Eckardt. The incident became known as “The Whack Heard Round the World”, during which her knee was injured. Only several weeks after the attack Kerrigan skated so well that her performance brought her silver in the Lillehammer Olympics, 1994.
After these Olympic Games Nancy retired from competitions, and took part in various skating shows like „Champions on Ice“ and others. Vera Wang, the famous designer, made outfits for Nancy Kerrigan and brought new trends of fashion into the figure skating world. Kerrigan is also the author of the book „Artistry on Ice“ which is about dancing on ice techniques. In 2003, Nancy became a spokeswomen for a non-profit organisation „Fight for Sight“ which focuses on medical research in ophthalmology and vision. In 2004 Nancy became an inductee into the United States of America Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
In 1995, Kerrigan married Jerry Solomon. Together, they have three children.
